Venturing off the beaten path in Aruba is truly where you find the island's heart, especially when it comes to food. While Palm Beach offers plenty of dining options, my recent trip taught me that the real treasures are found a little further afield. That’s exactly how I stumbled upon O'Niel Caribbean Kitchen, and let me tell you, it was an absolute game-changer for my taste buds! After a scenic 30-minute drive from the hustle and bustle of Palm Beach, we arrived at O'Niel. The first thing that caught my eye was the vibrant, illuminated yellow and black sign proudly proclaiming "O'Niel Caribbean Kitchen" with its inviting spoon, knife, and fork icon. The slogan, "Good to the last Bite," instantly set the expectation for a memorable meal. The outdoor dining tables, visible even at night, promised a relaxed and authentic island experience. What truly sets O'Niel apart is its commitment to authentic Aruban and Caribbean flavors. This isn't your watered-down tourist fare; this is the real deal. When my plate arrived, I was in heaven. The oxtails were incredibly tender, literally falling off the bone, swimming in a rich, savory gravy that I still dream about. And the presentation? Just like you’d hope! My plate was piled high with those legendary oxtails, perfectly paired with fluffy rice and peas, creamy mashed potatoes, a crisp fresh green salad, and sweet fried plantains. Every element on the plate was cooked to perfection, creating a symphony of textures and tastes. My dining companion opted for the curry goat, and it was equally magnificent – tender chunks of goat meat infused with a deeply aromatic and flavorful curry sauce. We also shared a portion of Rasta pasta, which was a delightful surprise with its creamy sauce and perfect spicy kick. For just $97, we enjoyed two incredibly generous plates that left us beyond satisfied, and that even included gratuity. Considering the quality and the generous portions, it felt like an absolute steal compared to what you might pay in the more touristy areas for less authentic food.
