Anxious Girl’s Guide to Calming the F*ck Down

2024/1/15 Edited to

... Read moreOkay, fellow anxious girlies, it warms my heart to share what’s truly helped me find a little peace in the whirlwind of anxiety. Beyond the quick tips I shared, I wanted to dive a bit deeper into how these practices have become my go-to's, and perhaps sprinkle in a few more insights from my own journey. First up, Binaural Beats. When my mind feels like a million tabs are open, these are a lifesaver. I usually pop on my noise-canceling headphones and search for "focus music" or "alpha waves" on YouTube or a meditation app. It’s not just about the sound; it’s about creating a little bubble where my brain can’t get overwhelmed by external stimuli. I use them when I need to concentrate on work, but also sometimes when I'm just trying to wind down before bed. It's amazing how quickly they can shift my state from frantic to focused. Then there’s Yin Yoga. Oh, Yin! It feels like a deep, internal massage for my nervous system. Unlike more active forms of yoga, Yin is all about holding poses for several minutes, allowing your body to slowly release tension. I remember one session where I just felt a huge wave of emotion come over me, and it was so cathartic. It’s not always comfortable, but that’s the point – sitting with discomfort in a safe way helps build resilience. I usually look for guided Yin Yoga flows online, and even 20 minutes can make a world of difference. Let's talk about fueling our bodies. Not Skipping Breakfast and Waiting for Coffee have been game-changers for my energy and mood stability. I used to think I could just power through my mornings, but the crashes were real, and they often triggered my anxiety. Now, I try to have a balanced breakfast, even if it's just some Greek yogurt and fruit. And that coffee delay? It felt weird at first, but giving my body a chance to naturally wake up before introducing caffeine has significantly reduced my morning jitters. It’s all about supporting those cortisol levels, and trust me, your nervous system will thank you! Supplements are a tricky one, and I always say, please talk to your doctor before trying anything new! But for me, exploring things like Xwerks Ashwa and sipping on Amare Happy Juice (as shown in my feed!) has been part of my personal wellness puzzle. Ashwagandha, in particular, is an adaptogen that many people find helpful for stress management. I’ve noticed a subtle calming effect that helps me feel a bit more grounded throughout the day. It’s not a magic bullet, but it's one piece of my overall routine. And finally, Calling Anxiety Out. This technique sounds simple, but it's incredibly powerful. Instead of letting anxiety consume me, I try to acknowledge it: "Hello, anxiety, I see you. You're trying to tell me something, but you're not in charge." It's like gently detaching from the overwhelming feeling and observing it, rather than being swept away. This mindful approach helps lessen its grip and reminds me that I have agency, even when panic tries to take over. Beyond these, I've found that having a few grounding techniques in my back pocket is essential. Simple things like the "5-4-3-2-1" method (naming 5 things you can see, 4 you can touch, 3 you can hear, 2 you can smell, 1 you can taste) can quickly pull me back to the present moment. Or even just taking three deep, slow breaths, focusing entirely on the exhale. These little anchors can be deployed anywhere, anytime, when anxiety starts to creep in. Remember, finding what works for you is a journey, not a destination. We're all in this together, and sharing our experiences helps us feel a little less alone. Keep exploring, keep trying, and be kind to yourself along the way!
