This book is about Danielle Kohan a lawyer who lives in nyc and we open up the book with her about to get engaged to her boyfriend of two years and we also meet her polar opposite best friend Bella. (Their dynamic reminded me a bit of firefly lane’s Tully & Kate). After the engagement Dannie falls asleep and has a dream where she is five years in the future and she wakes up in an entirely different apartment with an entirely different man. It’s brief, it’s shocking, but its impact is definitely felt … from that moment on the book kicks off and there’s so many jaw dropping, pearl clutching moments. I could NOT put this book down and let me just say I know you hear it often but you will not be expecting the ending. You might need some tissues and you will definitely be wanting to call up your bestie and hang with them asap. I highly recommend this - it’s a touching quick read that you won’t forget about so quickly afterwards, it’ll definitely stick 💛

She actually didn't start out with a focus on novels; her background is in screenwriting, having attended the University of Southern California's screenwriting program. I think this really shines through in her books, especially in 'In Five Years,' where the pacing is so cinematic, and the twists feel so perfectly structured for maximum impact – just like a great movie script! It makes so much sense why the story felt so vivid in my mind. Her journey to becoming a New York Times Bestseller and having her book picked for the Good Morning America Book Club is truly inspiring. Before 'In Five Years' became such a sensation, she wrote several young adult novels, which is a testament to her versatility as a storyteller. It's always great to see an author grow and evolve their craft. I can only imagine the dedication it takes to shift from YA to adult fiction and achieve such widespread acclaim. Learning about her background made me reflect on the themes she explores. Serle often delves into concepts of fate, destiny, and profound human connections, particularly friendships, which is so evident in the dynamic between Dannie and Bella in 'In Five Years.' It felt so real and raw. Her ability to weave magical realism into contemporary settings, making it feel completely believable, is, I think, a direct result of her creative vision and narrative skill developed over the years. It's not just a plot device; it's integral to exploring deeper questions about life choices and love.
