Books I’ve DNFed
These books just didn’t get my attention! Reading is supposed to be fun and not a chore so I had to stop them lol unpopular opinion on most of these as I know many of them are famous for being amazing but I couldn’t do it!😩
DNFing books, or choosing to 'Did Not Finish' certain titles, is a personal decision I don't take lightly. Sometimes, even hype or critical acclaim can’t save a book that just doesn’t resonate with you. For me, reading is a source of joy and escapism, so if a story isn't grabbing my attention early on, I feel it's better to move on rather than suffer through it. In this list, some titles are recognized by bestselling authors like Sarah J. Maas and Callie Hart or come from genres like fantasy and romance, which are wildly popular. Yet, I found myself disconnected from their narratives or characters. For instance, famous series such as "A Court of Thorns and Roses" have a huge fan base, but the pacing and themes didn’t align with my personal taste. When I reflect on why I DNF certain books, common reasons include slow plot progression, lack of relatable characters, or even just a mismatch in my current mood or preferences. It’s important to remember that reading is a subjective experience; what captivates one reader may not work for another. I’ve learned that giving myself permission to stop reading a book doesn't mean failure. It means valuing my time and enjoyment. The literary world is vast and full of incredible stories waiting to be discovered. Not every acclaimed book fits into my reading journey, and embracing that truth leads to a richer, more fulfilling experience. If you're struggling with a book you’re not enjoying, consider DNFing it as a way to respect your own reading pleasure. Life’s too short to force yourself through stories that don’t bring you happiness or inspiration. Happy reading!
