A hard truth on the healing journey is realizing that a narcissist may never forgive you for what they did to you.
They may never take accountability.
They may never accept the truth.
But that burden was never yours to carry.
Stop waiting for understanding from someone committed to misunderstanding you. Healing doesn’t require their apology or closure — it requires surrender.
Give it to God.
God sees you. God knows the truth. God is your vindication, your peace, and your healer.
When God closes doors you keep trying to explain yourself in, it’s not punishment — it’s protection.
You don’t lose when you walk away.
You don’t lose when you choose peace.
You heal.
Release what you’ll never receive from them and trust that God will restore what was broken and lead you into freedom.
Healing from the impact of narcissistic abuse can be an incredibly isolating and challenging process. From my personal experience and conversations with others on similar journeys, one of the most freeing realizations is that you cannot control or change a narcissist’s behavior, especially their refusal to acknowledge their harm or seek forgiveness. Holding onto the hope that they will apologize or admit the truth often prolongs emotional suffering. I found that true healing began when I stopped waiting for validation or understanding from someone unwilling to give it. Instead, I focused on self-care, setting strong boundaries, and seeking support from trusted friends, counselors, or faith communities. Turning to spirituality became a cornerstone for many in my circle, as surrendering the need to control outcomes to a higher power alleviated the weight of carrying pain alone. The idea that "God sees you, knows the truth, and is your vindication" resonated deeply as it helped me reframe my experience. Rather than feeling punished when doors closed or relationships ended, I learned to view these moments as forms of protection and redirection towards peace. Walking away from toxic people is an act of strength and self-love, not a loss. I encourage anyone facing narcissistic abuse to practice patience with their own healing timeline and to embrace the concept of surrender—not as giving up—but as granting themselves permission to find freedom beyond the chaos. Releasing expectations of what you will never receive from the narcissist is a powerful step towards reclaiming your peace and rebuilding a life grounded in hope, restoration, and personal growth.
