📍Sapphire Bay Beach Resort, St Thomas
One of our favorite spots to have a beautiful island vacation if you only have an ID! The water is so clear and perfect for snorkeling we love the island so much and make sure to always rent a car so we can really go and explore all the local spots, hidden gems, best restaurants, and of course we love taking the ferry to St John and if you do have your passport you can easily check out other islands too!
Visiting Sapphire Bay Beach Resort in St Thomas offers a truly unique experience for travelers who may not have a passport but still want a tropical island adventure. One of the best things about this spot is the ease of access—you only need a government-issued ID, which makes planning and traveling hassle-free compared to international trips. Besides the stunningly clear water ideal for snorkeling, renting a car is highly recommended. It allows you to explore beyond the resort, discovering local cafes, eateries, and the quiet hidden beaches that are off the typical tourist trail. This way, you get to experience the authentic atmosphere of St Thomas. If you do have your passport with you, there are easy ferry connections to nearby islands such as St John, expanding your island hopping possibilities. These nearby islands provide different vibes and additional scenic spots to explore, making your Caribbean vacation more diverse. Personally, I found that taking the ferry was one of the highlights; the ride itself offered breathtaking views of turquoise waters and vibrant marine life. St John, in particular, has excellent trails and beaches worth a day trip. Another tip is to visit during the shoulder seasons to avoid crowds while still enjoying pleasant weather. The US Virgin Islands are known for their warm climate year-round, but visiting when it’s less busy allows for a more peaceful and immersive experience. Overall, Sapphire Bay Beach Resort is perfect for travelers looking for a beautiful island vacation without the complication of international travel documents. It offers the best of the Caribbean’s natural beauty, local culture, and convenience—all in one accessible destination.
