🌱Survival Mode (Post 1 of 3)

Living in survival mode isn’t living.

It’s reacting.

It’s protecting.

It’s doing what you have to do, emotionally, physically, mentally, just to make it through the day.

Sometimes it looks like high-functioning. Other times it looks like disappearing, but either way, it’s exhausting.

If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone.

I’ve been there.

I’m still learning how to breathe again, how to stop surviving and start living.

🌀 Tomorrow, I’ll share about being stuck in survival mode.

It’s not just a place, it becomes a prison.

But there’s a way out.

And I promise… you’re not broken, you’re adapting.

... Read moreIf you've ever felt that persistent, nagging exhaustion, like you're constantly running on fumes, you might be intimately familiar with what it means to be in 'survival mode.' It’s more than just being stressed; it’s a deep-seated state where your nervous system perceives a continuous threat, even if consciously you don't. I remember feeling this way for so long, wondering why I was always so tired, even after a full night's sleep. It's truly like living on high alert, where every day feels like a battle. One of the biggest misconceptions is that it’s a sign of weakness. But as I've learned, it's actually your incredible body and brain adapting to perceived danger. This state often stems from past experiences like trauma, or ongoing stressors such as financial instability. When your system learns to protect itself, it can get stuck in that protective loop. So, how do you know if you're truly in this mode? Beyond just feeling 'tired of living in survival mode,' there are specific signs that your body and mind are caught in this loop. You might experience constant tiredness, a pervasive feeling of numbness, or find yourself overthinking every little detail. Decision-making can become incredibly difficult, leaving you feeling paralyzed. Maybe you're always 'on,' hyper-aware of your surroundings, or perhaps you swing the other way and just want to disappear. These aren't personal failings; they’re symptoms of an overwhelmed system. Your brain, specifically, might be prioritizing immediate threat assessment over logical thought or relaxation. Recognizing these signs is the crucial first step. It's about acknowledging that this is happening. Instead of fighting it, can you simply observe it? From there, creating small pockets of safety and calm can begin to shift things. This might mean consciously slowing down, even for just a few minutes, or making sure your basic needs like sleep, nutrition, and hydration are consistently met. Naming your feelings, instead of pushing them away, can also be incredibly powerful. Sharing what you're going through and getting support from trusted friends, family, or professionals can make a world of difference. It's a journey of rebuilding safety, one small step at a time, reminding yourself that you are not broken, but simply adapting. This isn't a quick fix, but a gentle process of guiding your nervous system back to a place of rest and digest.
