Essential Stationery for ADHD 🖊️📝

When it comes to managing ADHD, the right stationary can make a big difference in staying organized and maintaining focus. Here are some stationary items that can be particularly helpful:

📝 Planners and Journals:

Daily Planners: Choose a planner that breaks down tasks by the hour. This can help structure your day and manage time effectively.

Bullet Journals: Bullet journaling is a flexible system that allows you to customize your planning, track habits, and jot down important notes.

Digital Planners: Apps like GoodNotes or Notability on tablets can be a versatile tool for organizing tasks and notes digitally.

🖊️ Sticky Notes and Tabs:

Color-Coded Sticky Notes: Use different colors for different types of tasks or priorities. This visual system can help you quickly identify what needs to be done.

Tab Dividers: In notebooks or binders, use tabs to separate sections and quickly find important information.

🖊️ Writing Tools:

Multi-Colored Pens: Color-coding your notes can help highlight important information and make studying or reviewing notes more engaging.

Erasable Pens: These allow you to make changes without creating a mess, which can be useful for those who like to keep their notes neat.

⏰ Timers and Alarms:

Pomodoro Timers: Use a timer to break your work into intervals (e.g., 25 minutes of work followed by a 5-minute break). This method can help maintain focus and productivity.

Alarm Clocks: Set alarms for specific tasks or reminders throughout the day to keep on track.

📓 Notebooks and Binders:

Grid Notebooks: These are useful for keeping notes organized and structured, which can be helpful for visual learners.

Binder Systems: Use binders with clear pockets and dividers to organize different subjects or projects.

✍🏼 Organizational Tools:

To-Do Lists: Simple but effective, to-do lists help you keep track of tasks. Consider using pre-printed to-do list pads for structure.

Habit Trackers: Track your habits and routines to help build consistency and recognize patterns.

Visual Aids:

Whiteboards: A small whiteboard can be used for jotting down quick notes, reminders, or planning your day.

Mind Mapping Tools: Mind maps can help in brainstorming and organizing thoughts visually.

Sensory Aids:

Fidget Tools: Items like stress balls or fidget spinners can help manage restlessness and maintain focus.

Textured Pencils or Pens: Writing tools with different textures can provide sensory stimulation and improve focus.

📚 Storage Solutions:

Desk Organizers: Keep your workspace tidy with organizers for pens, papers, and other supplies.

Portable Pouches: Use pouches or small bags to keep stationery organized and easily accessible, especially when on the go.

Choosing the right stationery enhance your ability to manage ADHD symptoms and stay organized. Experiment with different tools to find what works best for you and helps you stay productive and focused.

... Read moreBefore I discovered the right stationery, my workspace often felt like a chaotic extension of my mind. Papers scattered, important notes lost, and a perpetual feeling of being overwhelmed. For someone with ADHD, this wasn't just untidiness; it was a barrier to focus and productivity. It wasn't until I started viewing stationery as a suite of "ADHD Hacks" that I truly began to transform my daily routine and boost my organization. One of the biggest game-changers for me has been mastering the art of planning. While I love the structure of a daily planner, I often combine it with a bullet journal or a digital app like GoodNotes. This blend gives me the flexibility to quickly jot down ideas in my bullet journal without the pressure of strict formatting, and then transfer important tasks to my digital planner for time-blocking. For instance, I use my digital planner to set up Pomodoro timers for specific tasks. Setting that alarm for 25 minutes of focused work, followed by a 5-minute break, has been incredibly effective in breaking down overwhelming projects and preventing burnout. It's like a gentle nudge that keeps me on track without feeling restrictive. Color-coding is another one of my favorite "ADHD Hacks" for visual organization. I've developed a system where different colors of multi-colored pens and sticky notes signify different priorities or categories. Red for urgent, blue for work-related tasks, green for personal appointments, and yellow for ideas I need to develop later. This visual hierarchy helps me quickly scan my to-do lists or notes and immediately grasp what needs my attention. I even use a magnetic utility cup on my whiteboard to hold my most-used colored pens, making them easily accessible for quick note-taking or brainstorming sessions. The whiteboard itself is fantastic for mind mapping, letting me visually connect ideas and see the bigger picture. Speaking of writing tools, erasable pens are a lifesaver. The fear of making a mistake and having to scratch out or re-write an entire section used to paralyze me. With erasable pens, I feel more freedom to get my thoughts down without that anxiety, allowing for a much smoother and more productive note-taking experience. For my notebooks, grid notebooks have been surprisingly helpful. They provide a subtle structure that helps keep my writing neat and my thoughts organized, which is especially useful when I'm trying to diagram ideas or create visual summaries. I also utilize binder systems with clear pockets to keep related documents together, ensuring that everything for a specific project is in one place. Finally, creating an ADHD-friendly workspace is crucial. Desk organizers are essential for keeping my pens, sticky notes, and other small items from becoming a cluttered mess. And for when I'm on the go, a portable pouch with my essential stationery – a small planner, a few colored pens, and some sticky notes – ensures I can maintain my routine wherever I am. I also keep a fidget tool or textured pencil nearby. Sometimes, having that sensory input helps me channel restless energy, allowing me to focus better on the task at hand. It's about building a personalized system that supports your unique brain, helping you stay productive and focused in a way that feels natural and sustainable.

I had piles of planners I would buy and use once or twice and then toss to the side because none of them are ever made to accommodate people with ADHD. They didn't include what we need. I ended up seeing a TT ad for a planner called the ADHD planner. I bought it once three years ago, and I never pay for the updates each year. Each year, they send out an email saying, for example, "Hey, the 2026 version is ready to download!" It's perfect.
