I've been in situations where I realized I was more of a fallback than a priority in someone's life. It’s painful to feel like you’re just a backup plan—someone people turn to only after they've run out of better options. From my experience, recognizing that you’ve been 'off the list' of primary people to contact is a crucial step toward self-respect. What helped me was setting clear boundaries and understanding my own value, not relying on others for validation or connection. Instead of chasing after someone who only hits you up when convenient, focus on nurturing relationships that make you feel respected and truly cared for. It’s empowering to reclaim your time and emotional energy. Also, learning to communicate openly about your needs without fear or apology improved my relationships immensely. When someone chooses to reach out only when they’ve exhausted other options, it often reflects their own disorganization or emotional unavailability—not your worth. If you relate to the feeling of ‘been off that list of people you can hit up once you run out of people you were choosing over me,’ know that you’re not alone and that prioritizing yourself opens doors to more fulfilling connections. Take the opportunity to invest in friendships and partnerships that treat you as a priority, not a fallback.
