I just want to say thank you to everyone who has helped my husband and me during this time. Thank you to Ami for running my book clubs, to my readers who messaged me saying they’d buy a book, to my author friends telling readers to buy a book, to my best friend/PA Kayleigh and her mom for loaning me a whole-ass car so we have a vehicle to drive, and to everyone who has checked in. Logan is feeling much better today. He has some pretty bad bruising along his abdomen where his seat belt sat, and he’s tired but overall he’s okay. Thankfully, the insurance company deemed Logan not at fault, but our car has officially been declared a total loss. We’re still waiting to hear back from our insurance and GAP insurance, about how much they think our car is worth and what is covered. We’re just hoping for the best financially because this has taken a major toll on us. Either way, I’m thankful Logan is okay and incredibly grateful for the community that came together to help us!
Going through a car accident is as stressful as it is physically and emotionally challenging. From my experience, the support from friends, family, and community really made a huge difference in coping with the aftermath. When dealing with insurance companies—especially with GAP insurance—it’s vital to keep all documents organized and communicate clearly about vehicle value and coverage. I learned that car total loss claims can take time, so patience and persistence are key. Another important aspect is managing the recovery process. Seat belt bruising can be deceiving; while it's painful, it’s a relief that it can signify protection during an accident. Listening to the advice of healthcare providers and giving the body time to heal is crucial. Meanwhile, having temporary transportation through generous friends or family eases the burden and helps maintain daily routines. Financial strain is a common consequence after accidents. Expert advice is to consult with insurance adjusters thoroughly and understand what GAP insurance covers since it can greatly reduce out-of-pocket expenses if your car is totaled. Lastly, never underestimate the power of community support—from loaned cars to emotional check-ins, these gestures provide both practical help and emotional comfort during tough times.
