1 Year Microlocs Anniversary

Wow, can you believe it's already been a year since I embarked on my microlocs journey? Time truly flies when you're watching your hair transform! When I first started with my approximately 370 microlocs, I honestly wasn't sure what to expect. All those tiny sections, the initial frizz, and the learning curve of a new hair routine felt like a huge leap of faith. But looking back at my 'before and after,' it's clear this transformation has been worth every moment. The first few months were definitely a test of patience. My hair was soft and fine, so I worried about them unraveling. Learning how to properly wash and dry them without disturbing the new locs was a whole new skill! I found that using a gentle shampoo and letting them air dry as much as possible, then finishing with low heat, worked best for me. It was a season of careful handling, learning to listen to what my hair needed. You might think the frizz phase is tough, but trust me, that initial high frizz eventually comes to an end as your locs bud and mature. Around the 6-month mark, I started noticing significant budding and my locs began to solidify. This was such an exciting phase! They started to look less like loose hair and more like actual locs. I saw a huge difference in the density and texture, feeling much stronger and more robust. This is also when I really started to feel the spiritual growth my original post mentioned. Embracing my natural hair in this form felt incredibly liberating and empowering. For anyone considering starting their own microloc journey, especially if you're curious about different styles or types like 'blonde microlocs' or 'smedium microlocs,' here's my two cents. While my locs aren't blonde, I've seen some absolutely stunning blonde microlocs journeys. If you're thinking of coloring, especially lighter shades, it's crucial to consult with a loc specialist. Coloring can be done, but it often requires extra care to maintain the health and integrity of your locs, especially within the first year. As for 'smedium microlocs,' the size really depends on your hair density, desired look, and lifestyle. Mine are on the smaller side, which gives them a lot of versatility, but smedium or even larger micro locs can also be incredibly beautiful and sometimes require less frequent maintenance. It's all about what feels right for you! My 1-year microlocs journey has been a marathon, not a sprint. It's taught me so much about self-acceptance, resilience, and the beauty of natural hair.
