One thing adulthood teaches you very quickly:

Some people are not actually confident.

They are confident inside hierarchies.

Inside environments where titles, authority, status, or intimidation give them identity.

That is why certain people struggle so much when they are not being admired, obeyed, or treated like the most important person in the room.

Real confidence exists with or without the title.

... Read moreFrom my own experience navigating workplace environments, I've noticed that genuine confidence truly stands out when external validations—like titles or authority—are stripped away. People who build their identity solely on control and intimidation often falter when they are no longer the center of attention or when others don't immediately comply with their demands. I’ve worked in teams where some individuals seemed confident only when commanding respect through their position or status. However, when faced with situations where hierarchy was flattened, such as cross-departmental projects or collaborative meetings, those who depended on external validation struggled. They needed constant obedience and visible acknowledgment to feel secure. Conversely, those who demonstrated authentic confidence carried themselves with assurance regardless of title or recognition. They engaged openly, listened actively, and embraced vulnerability, which earned them sustainable respect. This approach resonates deeply in corporate culture and leadership, enhancing emotional intelligence by recognizing that self-worth should not be mistaken for control. Recognizing these dynamics helped me understand office politics better and contributed to my personal growth in emotional intelligence. It’s important to develop a strong inner confidence that thrives both within and outside established hierarchies, enabling more authentic interactions and leadership.
