Burnout is not always dramatic.

Sometimes it looks like being annoyed by every notification. Sometimes it looks like needing a full weekend to feel almost normal. Sometimes it looks like crying over something small because you have been carrying too much for too long.

If every week feels like survival mode, that is information.

... Read moreBurnout can often sneak up on us in subtle ways that are easy to dismiss or overlook. From my own experience, I didn’t realize I was burned out until I kept feeling exhausted before my workday even began. Weekends that used to be restorative started feeling pointless because by Monday, I was already drained again. One key sign I learned to pay attention to is irritation—especially toward small requests or people needing help. I found that when I was at my worst, even minor interruptions felt overwhelming. This matched with the feeling of dreading every small task or request, a classic sign of a mental load that’s become too much. Another important lesson is that needing a whole weekend just to return to 'almost normal' isn’t something to ignore. Our bodies and minds need real recovery time, and if that’s not happening, burnout is likely at play. If you find yourself saying, "just need to get through this week," over and over without improvement, it’s crucial to acknowledge this as a warning sign. Surviving each week instead of thriving is information about your mental health that shouldn’t be ignored. Addressing burnout requires intentional actions: setting clearer boundaries between work and personal time, practicing self-care consistently, and where possible, reducing workload or seeking support. Small lifestyle changes like mindfulness or short breaks during the day have also helped me re-center and regain energy. Ultimately, burnout isn’t always dramatic or visible. It can manifest as persistent tiredness, irritability, or emotional sensitivity that builds slowly. Recognizing these signs early can empower you to take steps that protect your mental wellness and improve your work-life balance over time.

There’s a quiet kind of fear that doesn’t look like fear at all. It looks like productivity. Like pushing through. Like “just one more thing.” But your nervous system knows the truth. Burnout isn’t a lack of discipline. It’s what happens when safety gets replaced with pressure for too long.
