A Dream I Still Think About...
When I was three years old, I had a dream.
A genie appeared on a magic carpet in the night sky. He revealed himself to me — calm, inviting — and asked if I wanted to go on a flight with him.
And I didn’t go.
I was too scared to say yes.
I think about that dream sometimes — not with regret, but with curiosity.
What might have happened if I had trusted him?
If I had climbed onto that carpet?
If I had let myself be carried into the unknown?
Of course, it was “just a dream.” And yet… dreams have a way of telling the truth long before we have language for it.
I wonder how many times that moment replayed itself throughout my life — in opportunities I hesitated to take, paths I felt drawn to but didn’t yet trust, versions of myself that waited patiently while fear took the lead.
And I also wonder this: what if that dream wasn’t about missing something — but about learning something?
About how fear enters early.
About how trust is learned slowly.
About how courage isn’t the absence of fear, but the willingness to meet it again and again, at different ages, in different forms.
Maybe the genie never left.
Maybe the invitation has been repeating — in quieter ways, with gentler timing, until I was ready to say yes.
Dreams don’t always ask us to act right away.
Sometimes they simply plant a question that unfolds over a lifetime.
And maybe that’s the real magic.
