💰 The 7 Money Sins Draining Your Bank Account 💰

A lot of people think money problems start with not making enough and oftentimes they do.

But SOMETIMES they start with much less dramatic things: impulse spending, buying too much, chasing quick money, comparison spending, refusing to scale back, emotional shopping, and avoiding the numbers altogether.

None of these feel especially catastrophic in the moment which is how they manage to become expensive.

The seven money sins are basically the financial version of “this probably isn’t helping.”

Which one is yours?

... Read moreFrom my own experience, recognizing these "money sins" was a game changer in managing my finances. For instance, I used to fall into the trap of lust—or dopamine spending—where I'd impulsively buy things for the thrill, like a $5.25 latte or an online order I didn’t really need. One simple practice that helped me was leaving items in my cart for 24 hours before buying, allowing desire to fade and avoiding unnecessary purchases. Gluttony or buying more than I could use was another pitfall. I had a tendency to stock up on skincare, supplements, and groceries thinking I'd use everything. The reset here was practical: I started tracking what I truly consumed and commit to using, returning, or selling unused items before buying more. It not only saved money but reduced clutter. Chasing fast money through risky investments (greed) once felt tempting, but I learned to avoid anything I couldn't fully understand. Instead, I research thoroughly and stick with investments proven by time to minimize risk. Comparison spending, or envy, often crept in when I saw friends' vacations or luxuries. I realized this led to stress and debt. The mindset shift was focusing on what I value rather than what others have. Pride kept me holding onto expensive cars and memberships I couldn’t afford comfortably. Downgrading was initially hard, but prioritizing financial peace over appearances gave me relief. Emotional spending, especially after bad days or arguments, was another trap. Recognizing this helped me find healthier ways to cope rather than impulse buying. Finally, sloth—avoiding bills and money tasks—used to worsen my financial stress. Tackling small tasks daily, like paying a bill or checking balances, prevented bigger problems. Each sin has a reset method that helped me build a more mindful and manageable money life. Honest self-reflection and small actionable steps truly make a difference.
