The transition from smartphone photography to using a DSLR, like a Nikon, requires some essential knowledge. Begin by familiarizing yourself with the camera's settings, including aperture, shutter speed, and ISO. These elements are crucial in controlling exposure and achieving the desired effect in your photos. Practice using different modes on your camera, such as Aperture Priority (A) and Shutter Priority (S), which can help you understand the effects of these settings without feeling too intimidated. Don't hesitate to explore the camera's manual—understanding your tools is key to exploiting their potential. Also, consider investing time in online tutorials or photography courses that specifically cater to Nikon users. Engaging with communities, like forums and social media groups, can provide inspiration and valuable support. Lastly, remember that practice is essential—take your camera out regularly and experiment with different scenes, lighting conditions, and compositions to enhance your skills!

I would read the instruction manual so you know what your camera can do, look up YouTube tutorials about photography in general and about your specific camera, and lastly, don’t be a afraid to take lots of pictures and delete the bad ones later! Memory is cheap nowadays, no more film!
