Homemade Christmas Decor
Lets make Christmas more sustainable. For this garland I used 4-5 oranges and 2 bags of unflavored popcorn.
How to dehydrate oranges:
- Preheat oven to 200°
- Slice the oranges and lay them flat on a tray.
- Cook oranges for 2-3 hours flipping every 30 minutes. (Depending on the thickness of your slices you may need to keep your oranges in for longer.) While flipping, check for browning on the oranges and check their level of dryness.
- Once done, let oranges cool before beginning threading
Tips for stringing garland:
- Thread oranges through the inside flesh of the fruit and not through the outside skin
- popcorn will thread better after letting it sit and cool for an hour but if you are inpatient like me you can still make it work when it ’s fresh.
- thread in any pattern you’d like. You can also add cranberries for more color (dry cranberries with oranges if you use them)
-when hanging try to hide a light behind each orange slice for a backlit affect
