Church Notes: Let Go, Trust God

It’s been a while… but today I was compelled to share the message I received this weekend!

What are you holding on to so tight it has your knuckles white? 👊🏾

If you let it go and replace it with God, will God be enough?

Sacrifice it to God, God has something better in store.

Things we hold on to/worry so much about, quickly turns into idolizing…. Which is ultimately putting that thing above God.

👉🏾It can be a good thing: your kids, marriage, friendships, work, yearning for a relationship, success….

🤦🏾‍♀️ I hate to admit I’m holding on to a relationship with a Godly man… but I had to, am I making this want for a man my idol.

Today I release that “want” to God… I pray for faith like Abraham! #JehovahJireh #TheLordWillProvide #SacrificeSunday

2/2 Edited to

... Read moreReflecting on the message of letting go and trusting God has truly been transformative for me. We often cling tightly to things that seem harmless or even positive—our children, relationships, career ambitions, or desires for companionship. However, as the article highlights, holding on too tightly to these can unintentionally become idols, placing them before God in our hearts. The story of Abraham's willingness to sacrifice Isaac (Genesis 22) deeply resonates here. Abraham's faith was tested by God in a tremendous way, and through his obedience and trust, God provided a greater blessing. This reminds us that true faith often requires surrendering what we love most and trusting that God's plans surpass our own. In my own life, I have struggled with holding on to specific hopes—like the desire for a godly partner—as if that want defined my happiness or identity. When I realized that this could become an idol, it was both humbling and liberating to release this burden to God. I found comfort in the belief that anything we place in God's hands will be provided for better than we could imagine, as suggested by the concept of "Jehovah Jireh" (The Lord Will Provide). Tests and temptations can sometimes feel overwhelming, but they serve distinct purposes: temptations aim to derail us, while tests build our faith and character (James 1:2-5). When God tests us, He is not punishing but helping us grow closer to Him and removing obstacles like misplaced idols in our lives. Prayer and faith like Abraham’s continue to inspire me daily to relinquish control and trust God's timing and provision. Rather than grasping tightly with white knuckles, I’m learning to open my hands and my heart, knowing that God’s blessings come more abundantly when we surrender completely. If you find yourself gripping something too tightly—whether it's success, relationships, or personal desires—consider this a gentle call to examine what might be competing with God for first place in your life. Surrendering these things to God not only honors His position but invites His peace and better plans into your journey. In conclusion, embracing the practice of sacrifice and trust brings profound spiritual growth and freedom. May this message encourage you to identify any idols you might be holding and courageously release them to God, in faith that He will provide abundantly beyond what you can grasp.
