Thinking about becoming an esthetician but worried about how to fit school into your busy life? Night school has been a total game-changer for me! When I started my journey in August 2023, I was a bit nervous about balancing everything, but it's totally doable and incredibly rewarding. For anyone wondering if night school is a thing, absolutely it is – and it’s perfect if you need that flexibility around work or other commitments. Beyond just anatomy and ingredients, which are super important foundations, our common night school classes dive deep into practical skills. We're learning everything from different facial techniques and extractions to chemical peels, microdermabrasion, body treatments, waxing, and even basic makeup application. It's a comprehensive program that really prepares you for the real world. We spend a lot of time perfecting our hands-on skills, which is my favorite part! You definitely get a full walkthrough of the beauty field, not just theory. One thing I quickly learned is the difference between 'aesthetics' and 'esthetics.' While often used interchangeably, 'esthetics' specifically refers to the practice of skin care, which is what we focus on. It's a small detail, but knowing the proper terminology is part of being a professional esthetic student! This profession offers incredible career mobility, allowing you to work in spas, salons, medical offices, or even start your own business. It's truly a path that lets you grow and adapt. If you're an esthetic student like me, or thinking of becoming one, remember that consistency is key. It can be tiring after a long day, but seeing your skills improve and understanding the science behind beautiful skin is so motivating. Don't be afraid to ask questions, practice on friends and family, and embrace the learning process. It’s hard work, but the feeling of helping someone achieve their best skin is truly unmatched!
