I deposit any extra money into a credit Karma savings account, I can’t spend the money because I don’t have a card connected to that account, I have it set up so that the only way to get the money out is to do a bank transfer, this makes the money just far enough out of reach that I can’t spend it frivolously, it’s emergency money ONLY! Sometimes I only have $2-$3 dollars leftover and that’s totally fine, as long as I’m adding something! I started doing this last year when my little brother spent 1month in ICU an hour away from home, the only reason my parents didn’t go under in that time is because my mom had been putting her extra money into a credit karma savings account, they ended up having just enough to keep their bills and gas paid.
