TIPS FOR BALANCING A DEMANDING FULL TIME JOB
quick intro to me & my career👇🏼
✨ i am 24 (turning 25 soon)
✨ graduated college early & started working full-time at 21 years old
✨ been working full-time in finance in new york city the entirety of my career
✨ my work is fast-paced & doesn’t have set “hours” but usually takes 50+ hours a week
✨ my commute is 2+ hours EACH WAY
✨ my job is 3 days in office 2 days at home
✨ i also do social media on the side which takes ~10-15 hours per week
things i follow to balance the stress involved with a demanding career👇🏼
🤍 my job isn’t necessarily my passion but i made sure i chose a job & team where i am not bored by the work, i generally like the people i work with, and the hours aren’t ridiculous (for me PERSONALLY ridiculous would be 70+ hours a week but that’s different for everyone)
🤍 i prioritize my nutrition to ensure my body & mind are fueled properly. i don’t need poor nutrition to add to any stress in my life
🤍 i set boundaries for myself and ensure that i stick to them 80% of the time (because sometimes you just can’t). for instance, i won’t check emails at the gym because that time is for ME to focus on ME, and i try not to check email after 9pm
🤍 just like we set performance goals in our jobs, it’s important to set work-life balance goals. i like to make them weekly since they often change! a big one for me is taking a real lunch once a week (i don’t get a “lunch” break and meetings are often scheduled during when most people eat lunch so i usually shovel food down at my desk)
🤍 remember that your career isn’t your identity & nurture your hobbies outside of work

Balancing a demanding full-time job alongside personal life can be challenging, yet it's crucial for maintaining mental and physical health. First, choose a job that aligns with your values and offers a supportive team atmosphere. It's essential to not dislike your work environment, as a positive vibe can significantly reduce stress. Additionally, focus on nutrition; by selecting healthy meals, you ensure that your body and mind are equipped to handle workplace pressures. Setting explicit boundaries around work is vital. This means not checking emails outside of work hours or during personal time, allowing you to recharge effectively. For instance, committing to a personal time rule—like no emails after 9 PM—creates a clear separation between work and personal life. Regularly revisit your work-life balance goals and make adjustments based on your current situation. These goals could include scheduling breaks during the workday, taking real lunch breaks, or dedicating time for hobbies. Reflect on these goals weekly, adjusting them to optimize your wellness. Lastly, remember that your career does not define your identity. Engaging in hobbies and spending time with loved ones can rejuvenate your spirit, making you a more productive employee in the long run. Embrace these tips to create a balanced and fulfilling life while excelling in your demanding job.
