Back to School At 30 🤯✏️📓
This year has been a doozy. 🤪
I started off motivated that this would be “my year.” Before I knew it 5 months had rolled by, I wasn’t meeting my weight loss goals, one of my dogs started physical therapy (which can get pretty expensive), I hadn’t saved the amount of money I was hoping to be able to quit my job by the end of summer, and my 30th was fast approaching and I hadn’t set any big celebratory plans.
Then 💥BOOM💥. Out of nowhere my company laid off 30% of employees and I got the short end of the stick just two days before my birthday. I was equally relieved and devastated. I hated my job but enjoyed the work I was doing (and my paycheck).
Being laid off allowed me the time and energy to slowdown and forced me to evaluate my life, goals, and desires. Somehow it all added up to be picking up a few creative classes this fall and I’m so excited. I’m the oldest in my classes, which was intimidating at first, but my classmates are incredibly welcoming. I am so happy when I’m in class. It feels like a part of my soul was starving for a long time and it is finally getting nourished. I’m so excited for what’s to come.
This isn’t how I pictured my 30th year, but I’m happy I’m here. I feel that I’m arriving, if that makes sense. Life is funny. I was scheduled for a promotion in September of this year but instead I’ve returned to school and am planning a trip across country to see my favorite band of 20 years. You got this! I went back to school after the military at 33 years old for my undergrad. Now I’m 2 semesters away from my masters. Stay motivated. I did much better in school later in life then I did at 18/19 years old.
