I was vacationing in Daytona this week and today I took a day trip to Smyrna Park which is 30 minutes south of daytona, this was suggested by an employee who helped me at a coffee shop, so of course i made it out there to see the “really cool dunes”
Smyrna Dunes is open 8am - 9 pm so if you want to beat the heat you might want to go during the evening or early morning
It’s super interesting and you get one free new entry and you can use that at there light house location as well!!!! i thought that was awesome for a day trip activity 🤩

The park map, which you can usually grab at the entrance or view online, is your best friend here. It clearly details all the walkways, ADA accessible areas – yes, parts of the park are very accessible! – and even points out the dog-friendly shores, fishing pier, and protected habitats. Knowing the layout beforehand really helps you plan your adventure and ensures you don't miss anything. Pay attention to the rules for leashed pets if you're bringing your furry friend along! The boardwalks at Smyrna Dunes Park are truly a highlight. As the original post mentioned, be prepared for lots of walking, but it's such a pleasant stroll! I loved traversing the long, grey wooden boardwalks that weave through dense green foliage and palm trees. There are several observation decks along the way, perfect for pausing to take in breathtaking scenic views of the coastal vegetation and the beautiful blue sky. Along the paths, you'll find signs like the one I saw describing 'Wild Coffee' (Psychotria nervosa), which adds an interesting layer to your walk. It’s not just a beach; it’s an outdoor classroom! The dog-friendly shores are fantastic, allowing your pups to enjoy the sand and surf responsibly. My final tip? While the original post suggested 3-4 hours, you could easily spend more, especially if you explore the various trails, spend time at the beach, or relax on the observation decks. Pack plenty of water, wear comfortable shoes for all that fantastic walking, and bring your camera – the views are absolutely stunning. This park is definitely a top pick for anyone visiting the Daytona area looking for a mix of relaxation, nature, and adventure!
