Study with me
Private pilot Stage check with my DPE coming up here is how ive been studying …
This has been by far the most helpful tool for helping me memorize commonly referenced topics in aviation all in one tiny book that is less than 100 pages. I love this book so much I might have to dedicate a post just to show you pages in the book I love the most. I bought this off amazon linked below if your interested. Seriously thank me later!
My two weakest topics in aviation has been weather and airspace ! Who knew you had to become a meteorologist to learn how to fly. 😆
This is just one helpful page in the book that tells you about the frequencies used for weather how often they are updated and for how long they are valid. Summary of clouds, flight rules, thunderstorms, and sigmets.

When i was a Optometry student my classmate showed me notability and I absolutely love this for taking notes, organizing information, watching and recording lectures. This also deserves a post in itself!! But I find this helpful for aviation because I could draw and label the parts of the plane from pictures i obtained. I would also label the six pack to help me remember the instrument names. And now that im near checkride I use it to quickly seach through my pilot operating handbook. I got the downloaded PDF from my instructor, and the piper 28-161 POH is 257 pages long! Nothing compared to the airline POH im sure but this notability app helps skip through the pages. I wanted to know the recommended oil for my plane at different temperatures, so i typed it into the search bar and it was the first things to pop up. Think about how much time that saves if you forgot the max take off weight /ramp weight and needed to quickly find the answer.
Cheese pilot is on youtube Im subscribed and have almost watched every mock pilot checkride he has done to try my best and prepare for my checkride. Most of them are not the same plane (most are in the cessna 172) but I still find it helpful to just hear the style of questions, and the logic behind the answer. I take alot of notes on each video and will often watch them a second time on 2x speed to keep the information fresh, and pause in between to give myself a chance to answer. Also helps to have your POH in hand so you can look at and familarize yourself with the commonly referenced regulations. More to come on this !
Again i enjoy sharing the information ive gained because it could have saved me alot of money and hopefully i can save you the time and money ! Aviation isnt cheap but once you commit see it through. We got this !!

Preparing for a private pilot checkride can be daunting, but utilizing the right study tools and strategies can make the process smoother. First, a highly recommended resource is a concise aviation study guide, which compiles crucial information into a manageable format, often less than 100 pages. This type of material offers insights into frequently referenced topics, aiding in memorization. Weather and airspace knowledge are two primary focus areas; understanding weather patterns and aviation regulations is essential for safety and compliance in flying. Many pilots find that supplementing their study with online resources, such as YouTube channels like Cheese Pilot, provides additional context through mock checkride scenarios. Engaging with these formats allows you to practice answering in real-time while familiarizing yourself with typical examination queries. Another notable tool is the Notability app, excellent for taking organized digital notes, drawing diagrams, and reviewing the Pilot Operating Handbook (POH) efficiently. The ability to quickly search for information such as maximum takeoff weights or oil requirements can save valuable time during study sessions, especially under pressure before a checkride. Incorporating these tools not only enhances the learning experience but also builds confidence in your flying abilities as you prepare for the next step in your aviation journey.
