Not taking any chances 🥬🍓🍇
Cleaning fruits and vegetables properly is a crucial step many of us overlook in our daily routines. Based on my personal experience, I’ve found that scrubbing produce thoroughly helps remove dirt, pesticides, and bacteria that might otherwise pose health risks. To begin, I always use cold running water and a dedicated brush for firmer fruits and veggies like cucumbers and melons. For leafy greens such as lettuce or kale, I soak them in a bowl of cold water while gently rubbing each leaf to dislodge any hidden dirt or tiny insects. Paying close attention to grooves, stems, and leaves is important because contaminants tend to hide there. I avoid using soap or detergents as these are not safe for ingestion and can leave harmful residues. Instead, if extra cleaning is needed, a vinegar water solution (one part vinegar to three parts water) can be used to soak produce for a few minutes before rinsing thoroughly. This method not only enhances the appearance but also improves the safety of the produce you consume — a step I believe is well worth the extra few minutes during meal prep. Not taking any chances with your fruits and veggies is key to maintaining good health and enjoying fresh, delicious meals.
