... Read moreWatching stories about tax evasion, especially involving well-known figures like Korean actors, really drives home how many people unintentionally struggle with taxes due to lack of proper education. It surprised me to realize that despite living in a digital age with abundant information, many young adults have never been taught the basics of filing taxes in school. This gap often leads to confusion, mistakes, or even legal trouble. From personal experience, I remember when I first started my job, I felt overwhelmed by all the tax forms and instructions that seemed complicated and unclear. I had to learn everything on the fly, mostly by searching online or asking others who weren't experts either. Schools could immensely help by including practical lessons about financial literacy, such as how taxes work, why they matter, and how to file returns correctly. This knowledge could empower young people to handle their responsibilities confidently and avoid issues like tax evasion accusations. Moreover, the social media buzz around famous personalities being accused of tax crimes highlights how high-profile cases can shine a light on everyday challenges faced by ordinary taxpayers. It’s not always about intentional wrongdoing; sometimes, there’s a genuine lack of resources or guidance. In many countries, including Korea, tax systems can be complex with many forms and deadlines, which further complicates the matter for newcomers to employment or self-employment. Incorporating tax education into school curriculums would prepare students better for adulthood and reduce anxiety about financial obligations. In summary, if schools invest time in teaching essential life skills such as tax filing, it will not only diminish incidents of accidental tax evasion but also enhance economic awareness and responsibility among future generations. Wouldn’t it be great if the next generation faced these challenges with clarity rather than confusion?

Unpopular opinion: It’s unethical not to do tax planning. Paying more in taxes than you legally should? That’s not noble — it’s negligence. Prove me wrong. The IRS tax code is 6,871 pages long. 99.5% of it is about how to pay less in taxes legally. Only 0.5% tells you how to pay more.
