What SPF level do I use???

SPF always confuse me. I never really know which one to get for my face. I typically use a higher SPF for the rest of my body. I have always been recommended to use either 30 or 40 for my face. Although sometimes it doesn't seem like enough. Does it affect how often you need to reapply it? Do you have to apply it more often if it is lower?

... Read moreChoosing the right SPF level for your face can indeed be confusing, as many factors play a role in determining what’s best for your skin. From my personal experience, I’ve found that SPF 30 or 40 usually provides adequate protection for daily use, especially if you’re indoors or only getting incidental sun exposure. However, for outdoor activities or longer sun exposure, I prefer using higher SPF products like SPF 50+ for better defense. It's important to understand that SPF primarily measures protection against UVB rays, the main cause of sunburn. For broad-spectrum protection, make sure your sunscreen also shields against UVA rays, which contribute to skin aging and long-term damage. For example, products like the Beauty of Joseon Relief Sun with SPF 50+ PA++++ mentioned in your query offer higher UVA protection alongside strong UVB defense. Reapplication is key: Regardless of SPF level, sunscreen should be reapplied every two hours when outdoors, or immediately after swimming, sweating, or towel drying. Higher SPF doesn’t mean you can reapply less frequently—it just means you get more protection during that time. If you use a lower SPF like 30, reapplying consistently helps maintain protection. Also, consider the formulation; some moisturizers with SPF 30, including those with ingredients like green tea and ceramides, provide good everyday hydration and sun safety but might require more frequent application depending on your activities. In practice, I carry a travel-size sunscreen to reapply throughout the day. Applying a generous amount evenly on your face and neck and combining sunscreen with protective clothing and shade helps maximize sun safety. In summary, while SPF 30 or 40 is sufficient for most daily uses, higher SPF levels like SPF 50+ offer extra peace of mind for prolonged sun exposure. Just remember, consistent reapplication and full-spectrum protection make the biggest difference in keeping your skin healthy.

Is SPF 50 really better than SPF 30? Let’s break it down 👇 As a board-certified dermatologist, I get this question all the time. The short answer? SPF 30 blocks about 97% of UVB rays. SPF 50? About 98%. That’s just a 1% difference. So does that mean SPF 30 is enough? For most people, yes. Esp
