Keep Your Eyes On Your Own Paper
I had the honor to speak to some of the brightest first-year students in Florida yesterday at the University of North Florida. Being in that room, I could feel my GPA rising from my undergraduate studies.
I was sharing with them 7 things life after college taught me 📖
Comment below which one you liked the most ⬇️
1.) “Life Be Life(ing)”: control what you can control 💡
2.) “Don’t Discount The Penny”: The jobs you don't want are just building blocks to help you build the tools you need for your future.
3.) “Keep Your Eyes On Your Paper”: Comparison and taking the shortcut are opportunity killers. Fall in love with you and your process.
4.) Your Gift Will Open More Doors Than Your Degree”: You won't have to force or sell yourself short when walking in your purpose. Don't lose sight of your dreams.
5.) “Stop Wearing Clothes That Do Not Fit You Anymore”: Falling out with friends, jobs, and locations is part of the process. When it is time to shift (SHIFT)
6.) “Chance & Choice”: Every day you wake up, you have a chance and a choice to make. If you want to find an excuse, you will find one.
7.) “Procrastination is Only Disrespectful To You”: Stop assuming you will be here tomorrow. Travel, read the book, ask the person out, and start the channel.
Transitioning from college to the professional world can be daunting, but adopting the right mindset can make all the difference. One of the key lessons is to stop comparing yourself with others, as this can lead to anxiety and dissatisfaction. Instead, focus on your unique strengths and the journey that lies ahead. Establishing a clear vision of what you want to achieve and allowing yourself to embrace new challenges can open unexpected doors. Moreover, don’t shy away from lesser-known opportunities. Often, jobs that seem unattractive initially can provide valuable experience and skills that contribute to your long-term goals. Recognize that every experience aids in building the tools necessary for success. Another important aspect is to celebrate your individuality. Just as “your gift will open more doors than your degree,” so too will your distinct perspective and creativity set you apart in any field. Embrace change and be willing to let go of outdated mindsets, relationships, or roles that no longer serve you—whether logical connections or strategic choices. Finally, keep in mind that procrastination serves only to hinder personal growth. Each day is an opportunity—a chance to pursue personal interests, expand your knowledge, or take that bold step you’ve been considering. Prioritize actions that align with your life goals, and remember: the best time to act is now.
