currently on an alkaline vegan diet for healing🦋
It’s truly amazing how much our bodies can heal when we give them the right support. When I shared my brief update about managing herpes outbreaks, a lot of you asked, "How is it now? Do you have outbreaks? What do you eat or do?" I wanted to dive a little deeper into my personal journey, because as I always say, "Herpes is just an experience on my journey," and it's one we can navigate with intention. For me, embracing an alkaline vegan diet has been a game-changer. After years of dealing with recurring outbreaks, sometimes quite close together, I decided to overhaul my eating habits completely. The idea behind an alkaline diet is to reduce the body's acidity, which some believe can create an environment less favorable for viruses like HSV to thrive. While I'm not a doctor, I can definitely share what has worked for *me*. So, what do I eat? My plate is now filled with vibrant, nutrient-dense foods. I focus heavily on greens like spinach, kale, and collards, often blended into smoothies with alkaline fruits such as berries, lemons, and limes. Cucumbers, celery, and bell peppers are staples in my salads and snacks. For protein and healthy fats, I rely on avocados, almonds, chia seeds, and flax seeds. Quinoa and sweet potatoes make occasional appearances as my go-to "carbs." Hydration is key, so I drink plenty of alkaline water and herbal teas throughout the day. I've found that incorporating fresh ginger and turmeric into my meals not only adds flavor but also provides a powerful anti-inflammatory boost. Equally important is what I avoid or significantly limit. This includes processed foods, refined sugars, dairy, meat, and excessive caffeine or alcohol. These items tend to be highly acidic and seemed to trigger inflammation for me, which often coincided with an outbreak. It wasn't easy at first, especially giving up some comfort foods, but the reduction in outbreaks and my overall improved energy levels made it absolutely worth it. Beyond diet, I've learned that managing stress is crucial. Stress can be a huge trigger for outbreaks, so I've incorporated practices like meditation and gentle yoga into my routine. Ensuring I get enough quality sleep each night also makes a noticeable difference in my immune response. While diet is my primary focus, I also sometimes use supplements like L-Lysine, Vitamin C, and Zinc, especially if I feel a tingling sensation or sense an outbreak might be coming on. *Always consult with a healthcare professional before starting any new supplement regimen, as everyone's body is different.* It’s been a few years since my last significant outbreak, and since starting this journey, I've only had one minor one. This lifestyle shift hasn't just helped with managing HSV; it's improved my digestion, given me clearer skin, and boosted my mental clarity. It truly feels like a holistic approach to healing and well-being. This isn't just about what you eat or do; it's about listening to your body and finding what helps you thrive on your unique journey.
