First Knoops in America!

Knoops (pronounced kuh-noops) has officially brought its premium UK-based chocolate cafe to the heart of SLC's 9th & 9th district. Think of it as a specialty coffee shop, but entirely dedicated to customizable drinking chocolate. Instead of standard chocolate powders, they melt real chocolate flakes directly into milk.

The menu is massive, but if go to their website you can take their taste test to find your ideal chocolate percentage. My fiance & I tried 34% Milk, which is phenomenal! Sweet & smooth, a great starting point if you are new to the brand. We kicked ours up with two espresso shots as a large iced drink.

I am already thinking about coming back for a hot version with pumpkin spice 🎃

Brand: Knoops

Price Range: 💲💲💲Higher than Starbucks, with extra charges for any add-ons.

Pros: Great location. Beautiful, clean storefront; massive variety with something for everyone; incredibly decadent chocolate.

Cons: Premium pricing; new staff are still building up speed (our Sunday visit took about 6 minutes).

⭐️Overall rating: /10: I'll give Knoops 8.5 out of 10 ✨️

I think we visited during down time so things were a little slower than usual, plus they were training the young lady who took our order.

I'm excited to try again 😋

Definitely a must while in SLC.

Their approach of melting real chocolate flakes instead of relying on powders elevates each cup's taste and texture, making the experience richer and more authentic. Taking their online taste test to find one’s perfect chocolate percentage is a fun, personalized touch that helps newcomers and enthusiasts alike appreciate the complexity of chocolate flavors. I personally found the 34% Milk Chocolate with espresso shots to be a great blend of smooth sweetness and bold coffee notes. It’s a fantastic option if you’re stepping into the world of drinking chocolate for the first time. Though prices are higher compared to typical coffee chains, the quality and unique offerings justify the premium. Adding seasonal flavors like pumpkin spice especially during fall could be a great way to enjoy a comforting, festive treat. Beyond the drinks, the inviting and clean storefront at 9th & 9th creates a welcoming atmosphere for chocolate lovers to relax or catch up with friends. While the staff seemed still adjusting during my visit, their friendliness and the overall ambiance definitely encourage return visits. For locals and visitors in Salt Lake City, Knoops offers not just chocolate but an experience to savor and explore beyond the usual coffee run.
