A programmer who seems to have everything ready, and the average salary is much higher than most other professions, working from anywhere, but actually finding that they are unhappy with the work they are doing, or that some people almost hate it?
A recent poll from Stack Overflow has revealed the shocking truth about life in the IT industry.
80% of professional software dev are unhappy with the job, with 1 in 3 seriously hating the job themselves.
72% agreed with the use of AI tools, but that was down from the previous year (77%).
76% use or plan to use AI on tasks, with a majority of more than 81% seeing AI as boosting efficiency.
45% believe AI is still not suitable for complex tasks.
70% don't see AI as a threat to jobs, but 79% worry about spreading misinformation.

In the insight above, although AI enhances performance, it does not solve the dissatisfaction of devs, reflecting that the main problem lies in corporate culture, pressure, and work environment, not the coding itself.
That developers continue to code part-time jobs shows that there is still a passion for writing code, but may need more freedom and flexibility than what is gained from routine tasks.
This industry needs to make structural adjustments to create work-life balance, reduce pressure, and pay more attention to the physical and mental health of employees. It may reduce this part of the problem.
