Spartan Laser in DnD 5E

However, to balance this, I introduced the 'Spool Up' mechanic: if your character has less than 17 Strength, you'll need to kneel to fire it accurately. This uses up half your movement, making positioning crucial and rewarding strategic play. It's a nice nod to the original game's feel, connecting directly to how 5e stat modifiers can influence weapon use. Then there's the 'Battery-Powered' system. This beast can only fire 4 shots before needing to recharge. This isn't just a simple short rest; it requires a long rest to fully replenish its power. This makes every shot count and adds a thrilling layer of resource management. As a player, you'll be constantly weighing whether to use one of your precious charges now or save it for a more critical moment – a true test of tactical thinking. This ability lets you unleash a 5-foot wide line of devastating energy. Any creature in that line needs to make a DC 18 Dexterity Save or take the full damage. It's perfect for clearing out multiple enemies or hitting a boss and its minions all at once. I even added a damage falloff: full damage up to 100 feet, then it decreases, dealing no damage beyond the 500-foot maximum range. It makes you think about optimal positioning for maximum impact. For DMs looking to introduce this, consider making it an artifact found in an ancient, forgotten ruin or as a reward for a high-stakes quest. Perhaps a spartan weaponry crafting recipes quest could involve finding exotic components.
