Fire cider recipe

🌿 What Is Fire Cider?

Fire cider is a traditional herbal remedy made by infusing roots, herbs, citrus, and spices in apple cider vinegar. It’s been used for decades to:

• Support the immune system

• Clear sinuses & aid respiratory health

• Improve digestion & gut health

• Warm the body & boost circulation

• Add a zesty, spicy kick to marinades, salad dressings, and teas

🌟 Benefits of Key Ingredients

• Ginger & Turmeric → Anti-inflammatory, immune boosting, great for digestion.

• Garlic & Onion → Natural antimicrobials; support immunity & heart health.

• Citrus & Peach → Vitamin C + antioxidants for overall wellness.

• Hot Peppers → Circulation, metabolism, clear congestion.

• Horseradish → Sinus-clearing, antibacterial, digestive aid.

• Parsley, Rosemary, Thyme, Oregano → Rich in vitamins, antioxidants, and traditional antimicrobial support.

• Licorice Root → Calming, soothing to throat and digestion.

• Spices (Clove, Star Anise, Cardamom, Peppercorns) → Anti-inflammatory, warming, digestion-supportive.

• Apple Cider Vinegar with the Mother → Probiotic-rich, balances gut health, enhances nutrient absorption.

⚡ Disclaimer for sharing/selling:

This traditional tonic is for general wellness support. It is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. Always consult your healthcare provider for medical advice.

Ingredients we used (split across 6 half-gallon jars):

• Fresh ginger & turmeric roots

• Garlic cloves (smashed)

• Onions (sliced)

• Beets (thin slices)

• Lemons, oranges, grapefruit, peach (sliced, peel on)

• Hot peppers (habanero, serrano, poblano, red/yellow chilies, long green chili)

• Fresh parsley, rosemary, thyme, oregano

• Licorice root slices

• Spices: cloves, peppercorns, star anise, cardamom

• Prepared horseradish (few tablespoons per jar)

• Raw apple cider vinegar (“with the mother” for best results)

Directions:

1. Pack ingredients into jars (fill ½–⅔ full with solids).

2. Cover completely with raw apple cider vinegar (make sure nothing sticks above liquid).

3. Cap tightly, shake daily, and store in a cool, dark place.

4. Steep for 6–8 weeks.

5. Strain, bottle, and (optional) sweeten with raw honey to taste.

✨ Enjoy 1–2 tablespoons daily as an immune tonic, or dilute in water/tea as needed.

... Read moreBeyond its general immune-boosting reputation, fire cider truly shines as a fantastic lung cleansing tonic, especially with ingredients like ginger, oregano, and a touch of honey. I've personally found it to be an incredible ally when I feel that familiar tickle in my throat or a bit of congestion settling in. It's not just a traditional remedy; it's a warm, spicy hug for your respiratory system! Let's dive into why these specific ingredients, many of which you can see in the fresh ginger, turmeric roots, garlic bulbs, and oregano in my prep photos, are so powerful for lung health: Ginger: This spicy root is a powerhouse! Ginger is well-known for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. When you're dealing with respiratory issues, inflammation in your airways can make breathing difficult. Ginger helps to reduce this inflammation and acts as an expectorant, meaning it helps to loosen and expel mucus from your lungs and airways. That warming sensation you feel from the red chili pepper and ginger isn't just for flavor; it's actively working to clear things out! Oregano: Often found in the fresh herbs like thyme and rosemary in my kitchen, oregano is a remarkable herb for respiratory support. It contains compounds like carvacrol and thymol, which have strong antibacterial, antiviral, and antifungal properties. These can be incredibly beneficial in fighting off respiratory infections. I love knowing that each sip of my fire cider is packed with this natural defender, actively working to keep my lungs clear and healthy. Honey (Optional Sweetener): While my recipe offers honey as an optional addition, it's worth highlighting its benefits for respiratory relief. Honey is a natural cough suppressant and has soothing properties, coating the throat to reduce irritation. It also possesses antibacterial qualities, making it a perfect partner to the other potent ingredients, especially if you're dealing with a sore throat or persistent cough. Mixing a tablespoon of fire cider with a spoonful of raw honey in warm water is my go-to when I need extra comfort. How I Use Fire Cider for Lung & Sinus Support: During flu season or when I feel a cold coming on, I make sure to take my fire cider daily. Instead of just a quick shot, I sometimes dilute 1-2 tablespoons in a cup of warm water with a generous dollop of honey. The steam from the warm drink, combined with the potent vapors from the fire cider, feels incredibly soothing for my sinuses and lungs. It helps to break up congestion and makes breathing feel easier. I've also found adding a bit to a homemade chicken soup or broth can turn it into a supercharged healing meal. Making this tonic with fresh ingredients, like the lemons, oranges, grapefruit, and fresh turmeric roots I used, ensures you're getting the maximum potency. It's truly empowering to create such a beneficial remedy right in your own kitchen! Remember, this is a wellness tonic to support your body's natural defenses, and always consult a healthcare professional for medical advice.
