Thailand's history of Thai dress is long and changing through eras, social conditions, cultures, and foreign influences. It reflects the fashion evolution and well-being of people at different times. From the past to the present, Thai dress can be divided into major eras as follows:

1.Antiquity (Before Sukhothai-Sukhothai)

During this period, the evidence on the dress is not very complete, but from the carvings and murals, it is found that:

☑️ Sukhothai: A man wears a ringbone or a turquoise, wears no shirt, or may have a shoulder cloth; and a woman wears a bagcloth or a sarcophagus, wears no shirt, or may have a girdle, and has a shoulder blanket, representing simplicity and harmony with the weather.

2. Ayutthaya period

It's when the dress culture becomes more complex and detailed:

Early-mid ☑️: The male is still ringed, not wearing a shirt, or may have a short-sleeved round neck shirt, the female is wearing a baggy cloth, an oblique cymbal blanket, and begins to be worn.

Long Sleeve Tight Top (Cylindrical Top)

Late ☑️ (Persian / Western Influence): There was a greater foreign influence, especially in the royal courts, rays-skipping men, wearing long-sleeved sleeves, women wearing baggy cloths, tucked over with long-sleeved sleeves, influenced by Western women's attire.

3. The early Thonburi-Ratchonin period (Reign 1-3)

The dress code is still inherited from the Ayutthaya period, but there are slight adjustments:

Male ☑️: Still mainly rays, may wear various types of open-necked or long-sleeved shirts, or may not wear shirts.

Female ☑️: A bag cloth, a strip blanket, or an oblique or ringray blanket are available for the palace women at important ceremonies.

4. The Middle Ratconin Period (Reign 4-6)

It was an era of major change, due to the entry of Western civilization and the opening of the country:

Reign 4 (His Majesty the King): Initiated women to wear shirts for neatness, and more Western clothing cuts began.

Reign 5: He played a key role in modernizing dress, especially women, giving up toplessness and campaigning to wear clothes neatly, with rattles, wearing cordon sleeves, and men starting to wear pants, wearing royal shirts, which became their signature attire.

Reign 6 (His Majesty the Crown): Continues to inherit the Reign 5 dress code, and there is a campaign to wear hats and shoes according to the Western style.

5.The late Ratconin period (reign 7-present)

Reign 7: Dress continued to be more of a mix of Thai and Western; feminists began to popularize wearing Western skirts and dresses.

☑️ period after the change of governance (1932): There was a campaign for universal dress to show the modernization of the nation.
