what to prep for destination pre-wedding shoot? 💍
We had our pre-wedding shoot in Bali couple months back and had a blast despite the unpredictable-weather-scares. We learnt many things along the way so I thought I'd share some here with you guys! Here are a few key essentials/items to note on our checklist before the shoot:
1️⃣ Shoot Schedule 📆
☑️ Country of choice
☑️ Preferred season
☑️ Preferred month (weather may be different depending on time of the year)
☑️ Time of the day to match the location (IMPORTANT as lighting plays a BIG part in shoots - eg: sunrise in the mountains or sunset by the beach, romantic evening look)
☑️ Have back up plans (bad/wet weather plan)
2️⃣ Plan your outfits to match shoot location 💃🏻
Your outfit matters. The outcome and "vibes" may look very different depending on your chosen outfit. Whether it's a rented wedding gown or a casual dress, it's important for you to know your shoot locations early so that you can plan ahead. Just imagine.....a long majestic wedding gown vs a mini casual dress in the mountains? It's entirely up to you, but at least you know what to expect! Some considerations to note:
☑️ Gown rental or self-source? (do align w your timeline; taobao may take weeks to come!)
☑️ Colors of your outfits
☑️ Partner's outfit (to match in style, tone, colors)
3️⃣ The bride's checklist 👰🏻♀️
This is quite self-explanatory — this list may not apply to all but I'll just leave mine here:
☑️ Personal checklist (nails, hair, facial threading, brows & underarm waxing)
☑️ Items checklist (bridal accessories, heels, flats, sneakers, masks, hair styling tools, hair clips, contact lenses, makeup, skincare, face mist & your list!)
4️⃣ Bridal make-up & hair stylist 💄
Here are a few options to consider:
♦️Bring/pay a makeup artist along with you (expensive but fuss-free, safest choice)
♦️ Get a local MUA (tidious, more time required in coordination but could save more $$$, no comm barriers)
♦️ Do it yourself (chill or nah? up to you 😁)
5️⃣ 💍 Rings! 💐 Flowers or Props...?
☑️ Engagement ring!!
☑️ Wedding bands
☑️ Bridal bouquets (research & make local arrangements early so that flowers can be sent to you a day before the shoot!)
☑️ Props for themed-shoots (if any, e.g. picnic mats, hats, sunglasses, gloves)
6️⃣ All-In-One Bag 🧳
🤓 Your handy, all-in-one, ready to go big bagpack when you're out on shoot. Tissues, wet tissues, water, snacks, portable fan, umbrella and everything that you may need at point #3 above.

Arrange local florists ahead of time to get fresh flowers delivered on the day. Lastly, an all-in-one bag packed with essentials like water, snacks, makeup touch-ups, and weather protection items helps you stay comfortable and prepared throughout the day. Following these practical steps, inspired by my own shoot experience in Bali, can help couples enjoy a smooth, memorable pre-wedding photoshoot that truly captures their special connection.
