FIND OUT your conflict resolution style! 🤫

😶‍🌫️ Humans are complicated! As someone who is really taken by the various personality tests and the human psyche, I'm always on the lookout for tests and metrics that aid personal growth and development.

Finally — this is the third, and the final part of this series of relationship tests that you can do to strengthen your relationship, (check out my previous two posts here on 👉🏻 Part 1: Attachment Styles and Part 2: Love Languages).

/

I've recently discovered Conflict Resolution Styles, which categorise and give a name to the different ways we tend to approach conflicts. These are SO HELPFUL.

They not only help me to understand and know my partner and myself better, but also to learn more about navigating disagreements with my colleagues, bosses, friends and those around me.

‼️ A quick google online, and you should be able to find the relevant tests and find out what you can do after knowing your own conflict resolution style. ‼️

Human relationships are never simple, making conflicts part and parcel of our daily existence. In addition to being great conversation starters, knowing oneself and a little more about others goes a long way in fostering healthy relationships that last.

Hope you have fun finding out your own conflict style and make sure to talk about it with your partner! 😄

... Read moreFrom personal experience, knowing the five main conflict resolution styles—Competing, Collaborating, Compromising, Avoiding, and Accommodating—has been a game-changer. For instance, the "Competing" style involves asserting your view strongly, which can be effective but may risk creating tension if overused. Meanwhile, "Collaborating" encourages open communication and creative problem-solving, which often leads to win-win outcomes but requires time and effort that not all situations allow. Understanding these styles helps to navigate the "avoidance spirals" where conflicts are postponed, often causing bigger issues later. Recognizing when you or others are avoiding conflict can prompt timely discussions to address concerns before they escalate. In my relationships, applying this knowledge has improved empathy and reduced misunderstandings. For example, realizing when my partner tends to accommodate to keep peace helped me appreciate their perspective better and encouraged me to share more openly. Likewise, knowing a colleague’s tendency to compromise helped me approach collaborations with more balance and flexibility. If you identify as an INTJ or any personality type, be mindful of how forced compromises may impact you emotionally. It’s important to find a balance that maintains your values while being open to others' views, preventing resentment and fostering respect. I recommend trying out online conflict resolution style tests to gain insight and then discussing the results with your partner or close friends. This shared understanding can strengthen relationships by making conflicts less intimidating and more constructive. Remember, conflict resolution is less about avoiding disagreements and more about handling them in ways that promote growth and harmony.
