How and why I QUIT VAPING

Why did I quit vaping after 3 years of doing it?

.

Vaping took over my life to the point where I couldn’t go a day without it and I constantly thought about it when I didn’t have one, I hated lying to the people I loved and having to hide part of my life from them.

I knew it was bad for my health but I did it anyways, it made me so tired and winded when I did the smallest amount of physical activity, I constantly was getting sick.

I hated the feeling of people judging me for doing it, I knew it was gross but I liked it and I felt like I needed it to calm myself from anxiety but in reality it was causing the anxiety.

How did I quit?

-I got the “I am sober” app and started keeping track of my sober days

-I got rid of any vapes that I had

-I left my old friend group(stopped surrounding myself with vapes)

-I made new friends that don’t support that kind of thing

-I chew A LOT of strong mint gum (helps with cravings for me)

- I surround myself with people that support me

-I’ve grown closer to God again.

Quitting is hard. I’ve failed many times but I’ve kept trying and now I’m almost 3 months nicotine free!!

I still have cravings, still want to do it again, but I remind myself it’s not worth the work I’ve put into it to start over now.

Yes quitting might seem impossible, but after vaping everyday for 3 years, I am proof that it’s not.

... Read moreWhen I first started my vaping journey, it felt like a coping mechanism, a way to handle stress and social situations. There was a certain perceived 'vape joi' in those moments of nicotine release. But what started as a seemingly harmless habit quickly spiraled, turning into a constant need that dictated my day. I'd find myself making excuses, hiding my habit from loved ones, and constantly feeling judged. The idea of a 'healthy vape' is a total myth; I was constantly tired, out of breath, and surprisingly, my anxiety, which I thought vaping was helping, only worsened. Quitting wasn't a one-time event; it was a battle. Beyond getting rid of all my old disposable vape pens and using my sobriety tracking app to mark each nicotine-free day, I had to fundamentally change my routine and environment. Those intense cravings, especially in the first few weeks, were brutal. Strong mint gum helped, but what truly made a difference were deeper coping strategies. When a craving hit, I'd immediately shift my focus – whether it was calling a supportive friend, going for a quick walk, or diving into a hobby. I realized that the physical craving often masked an emotional one, and learning to sit with those feelings, rather than reaching for a vape, was crucial. Changing my social circle was one of the hardest but most impactful steps. Being surrounded by people who supported my decision, rather than those who encouraged the habit, made a world of difference. I wanted to move past the image of someone always with a vape in hand, those 'fotos de vape en la mano tumblr' aesthetics that once seemed appealing now felt like a cage. Building new friendships based on shared healthy interests, rather than shared habits, helped me redefine my identity beyond vaping. Now, approaching three months nicotine-free – my sobriety tracking app shows I’m almost at the 90-day mark (just like the "2 months and 26 days" progress in my journey screenshot) – the physical and mental improvements are undeniable. My lungs feel clearer, my energy levels are soaring, and that constant underlying anxiety has significantly subsided. I sleep better, my taste buds are sharper, and I no longer feel the shame of hiding something. This journey has taught me immense resilience. It’s a powerful reminder that while quitting is incredibly hard, staying sober and reclaiming your health is absolutely worth every struggle. If I can go from vaping every day for three years to confidently saying I'm nicotine-free, then you absolutely can too. Keep trying, keep fighting, and never give up on your path to freedom.
