4 room Wabi Sabi themed house for <70K

Hi zesties!! 🍋

Sharing our home Reno break down for anyone that’s currently going through renovations too.

We opted for a more minimal theme and less built in & curves as we know these definitely includes additional charges and we wanted to save as much as possible.

It took about 3.5 months for the entire Reno process to be done but we are really pleasantly surprised by how it turned out! Have been staying in our little nest since Jan 2026 and no complains so far! We bought 80% of our furniture off Taobao & yes we also hacked two bedrooms to become 1 bedroom thus the wardrobe area is HUGE.

Ask away in the comments section for any furniture links or Reno tips and we’ll be happy to help!

... Read moreDuring the renovation, one of the best choices we made was focusing on simplicity and functionality rather than elaborate built-ins or intricate curves, which helped us stay well within budget. For example, the concealed bomb shelter cost about $1800, while flooring for the entire house was $9230. Painting was done for $1350, and kitchen carpentry came in at $4630 with a beautiful sintered stone counter and backsplash for $2350. We also modified two bedrooms into a single larger bedroom which gave us a spacious wardrobe area, adding convenience without extra cost. The master bathroom features a full-length shower niche costing $950 and a custom cabinet for $2410, creating a polished yet understated look. We sourced 80% of our furniture from Taobao, balancing affordability and style to maintain the Wabi Sabi vibe. From my experience, prioritizing essential carpentry like the dry pantry ($2500) and built-in vanity counter ($1450) helped strike a perfect balance between aesthetics and practicality. Small additions like a glass door ($830) and overlay flooring in the bathroom ($4240) finish the look beautifully. If you’re planning a renovation on a budget, keep space-utilization tweaks in mind and don’t shy away from sourcing furniture online. This project taught me that with careful planning and minimalistic design choices, you can achieve a tranquil, stylish home without breaking the bank. Feel free to ask me about furniture links or renovation tips—I’m here to help!

Some homes just make you want to stay a little longer.
One of the things I’ve learned as a designer is that a beautiful home isn’t always the most expensive one. Sometimes it’s the soft morning light, warm textures, and a space that lets you slow down after a long day. That’s always the feeling I hope to create. #InteriorDesign #Japandi #
