The Fragility of Life🥲

Have y'all heard the news about Barbie Hsu (大S)? She reportedly passed away due to pneumonia caused by influenza. She was one of my favourite Taiwanese actresses, and I have fond memories of watching her dramas, Meteor Garden! It was an absolute sensation back in the day.

On top of that, I recently experienced another reminder of life’s fragility—one of my colleagues passed away unexpectedly in late Jan this year. She was active, healthy, and full of life, and yet, just like that, she was gone. All of us were in shock, struggling to process how someone who seemed perfectly fine could leave us so suddenly. Moments like these really put things into perspective.

We go about our daily lives, often taking time for granted, assuming there will always be another day, another chance, another conversation. But the truth is, we never really know when our time—or someone else’s—will run out. This is why it’s so important to cherish every moment with our loved ones. Express our love openly, mend broken relationships when possible, and pursue what truly makes us happy. Time is fleeting, and once it’s gone, we can’t get it back.

Of course, it’s not always easy. Life comes with challenges, responsibilities, and moments of hesitation. But if we make a conscious effort to live fully, to be present, and to appreciate the people around us, we can find peace knowing we’ve given our best.

We don’t get to decide when our time is up. But what we do have control over is how we live while we’re here. So let’s love deeply, laugh often, and make every moment count—because one day, all we’ll have are the memories we’ve created.

... Read moreThe recent news of Barbie Hsu’s passing due to pneumonia caused by influenza, combined with the sudden loss of a close colleague, brings a profound reminder of how unpredictable life can be. These moments have prompted me to reflect deeply on how we often take our daily routines and relationships for granted. In my experience, life’s challenges and responsibilities can often distract us from truly being present. However, consciously deciding to slow down and appreciate the people around us can transform our perspective. It’s important to openly express love and gratitude to those who matter most, to reconcile where possible, and to seek joy in things that genuinely fulfill us. I've also realized that honoring the memory of those who have passed is not just about mourning but about motivating ourselves to live better and with intention. Whether it’s through spending quality time with family, pursuing passions, or simply laughing more, every moment becomes more precious when we understand its impermanence. The phrase recognized from an image in the article, “LIFE IS SO FRAGILE,” perfectly captures this truth. It has inspired me to be more mindful of how I live daily and to encourage others to do the same. Life doesn’t offer guarantees, but the legacy of love, kindness, and positivity we leave behind can be timeless. Looking back, stories like Barbie Hsu’s resonate because they bridge cultural boundaries and personal emotions about mortality and appreciation. For anyone reading this, I hope it serves as a reminder to embrace life fully—love deeply, cherish connections, and make every moment truly count.
