Side note : take a taxi from the airport because Ubers are illegal, the Uber driver may have you walking some distance just to pick you up so to avoid that just get the taxi or see if the hotel you book with have a shuttle system.

Visa:

-Visa is not needed, but you do need to fill out something called a check mig, they didn’t ask me for it but they ask other people for it. You have to do it both ways when you go in and when you comeing. It’s free 👇🏾 link

-Transportation 🚗🚕

You can take Uber almost anywhere, however, it is illegal so use it only for short distances, to go anywhere far use a taxi but negotiate the price before you get in.

Hotels 🏨

- Getsemani is where all the colorful stuff is at, it’s not all in one spot you have to walk around. I

- If you stay at the chain hotels it’s a 15 to 20 mins uber ride into Getsemani and the uber is very cheap

- The boutique hotels are inside Getsemani

Booking activities:

- activities can be booked with the hotel. They usually partner with some booking company. If not, they can point you in the right direction.

- they also have booking spots on almost every corner in Getsemani or you can use those booking apps like viator.

Other info 📝

- you can pull out cash and take it with you and change it over there at the money centers

- or you can go to the ATM there’s one in the airport

- Make sure to get small bills because sometimes they don’t have change for the bigger bills

- Every single thing you have to pay for if somebody walk up to you on the street rapping you have to pay for that if you want to take pictures with the ladies in the dresses you have to pay for that so just make sure you have cash on you all the time.

... Read moreYou know when you see those vibrant 'CARTAGENA' letters in photos and just have to get your own shot? I totally get it! When I was planning my trip, those letters were high on my list of must-see photo ops, and let me tell you, they did not disappoint. I headed straight to Bocagrande beach, right where the city meets the sand, and there they were – those iconic, colorful letters, practically calling my name for a selfie under the beautiful blue sky. A little tip from my experience: try to go early in the morning or just before sunset. The light is absolutely gorgeous, perfect for capturing those vivid colors, and you'll avoid the midday crowds. Plus, the heat isn't as intense, making it a much more pleasant experience for striking your best pose. I found that if you walk a bit further down the beach from the main cluster of people, you can sometimes get a clearer shot without too many background distractions. The sandy beach stretches beautifully behind them, offering a classic Cartagena backdrop. Beyond just the letters, this area is fantastic for soaking in the local vibe. After I got my pictures, I loved just strolling along the shore, watching the waves, and grabbing a fresh fruit juice from one of the vendors. It’s a great spot to people-watch and really feel the energy of Cartagena. Don't be shy about trying some of the street snacks – I discovered some amazing empanadas right there on the beach! And speaking of iconic photo spots beyond just the letters, don't forget to explore the incredibly vibrant streets of Getsemani. While not 'letters' in the same sense, every corner, every colorful mural, and every flower-draped balcony feels like a carefully crafted photo opportunity. I spent hours just wandering and snapping pictures of the historic architecture and lively street art. It's a completely different vibe from the beach, but equally stunning. The 'LA PIEDRA' letters, if you venture out to El Peñol, are another fantastic photo op with a massive rock formation in the background – though that’s a bit of a journey from Cartagena itself, it’s worth noting for those looking for more iconic typography photo ops. For those wondering about the best way to get to the 'CARTAGENA' letters, a quick taxi ride will get you there easily. Just specify Bocagrande beach. Remember, Ubers can be a bit tricky with pickups, as I mentioned earlier, so a taxi is usually your safest and most straightforward bet for short distances like this. After you’ve captured your perfect shot, you can easily spend the rest of your day exploring nearby attractions or simply relaxing on the beach. It’s definitely a moment you’ll want to capture and remember from your Cartagena adventure!
