Park Guell & Why I Won’t Go Back 😬

... don't get me wrong. It was beautiful - it's also a UNESCO World Heritage Site - but it was one of the most crowded places we went to in our entire trip to Spain and Portugal. It was worth seeing but I probably won't be rushing back the next time I'm in Barcelona. For a better experience, keep reading on what we learned -

Park Güell

Carrer d'Olot, 08024 Barcelona, Spain

Travel Planning Tips:

🦎 Most of Park Guell's areas are actually free, but if you want to see the parts with Gaudi's designs (called the Monumental Zone) then you have to pay an entrance fee. It costs €10. There is a ticket office there but I recommend buying tickets ahead of time on their website.

🦎 Plan to spend at least 2 hours here. You can bring your own food and snacks but there is also a restaurant inside the park.

🦎 They have wifi and upon logging in you can also access a free audioguide to listen to when you're in the spots.

🦎 Book the earliest ticket of the day (9:30am) and be there to line up about 10mins before opening. Look for the appropriate line as we accidentally lined up behind a tour and apparently there was a different queue for people who already had tickets.

🦎 If you want to experience The Dragon Stairway without being elbow to elbow with 100 people, I suggest making a beeline to this area as soon as you get in. The Mosaic Terrace will also be super packed but it will be easier to squeeze in a nice photo. Don't miss the colonnaded pathway and hypostyle halls.

🦎 Avoid coming on a weekend. We went on a Wednesday and it was very packed - can't even imagine the weekend crowds here! According to the internet, the best days to come are Mondays and Thursdays and between 9:30-11am.

Have you been here? Save this for your next trip!

... Read morePark Güell, designed by the renowned architect Antoni Gaudí, is a stunning example of modernist architecture and is one of Barcelona's most iconic sites. As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it attracts millions of visitors each year, making it a must-see on any travel itinerary. However, the overwhelming crowds can detract from the experience. To make the most of your visit, consider these travel planning tips: 1. **Visit Off-Peak**: To avoid the throngs of tourists, it’s best to plan your visit during weekdays, particularly Mondays or Thursdays. Early morning slots, such as the 9:30 AM entry, are also recommended to help navigate through the busiest areas before they fill up. 2. **Purchase Tickets Online**: While parts of the park are free, accessing the Monumental Zone—which boasts Gaudí's most famous works—requires a ticket. These can be purchased online in advance to skip the long queue at the ticket office. The entry fee is currently €10. 3. **Pack Light Snacks**: Although there is a restaurant on-site, bringing your own picnic can enhance the experience, allowing you to enjoy breaks amidst the park's spectacular views without incurring extra costs. 4. **Utilize the Free Audioguide**: Park Güell offers free Wi-Fi, which gives you access to an audioguide. This can enrich your visit by providing context and history about Gaudí's masterpieces scattered throughout the park. 5. **Strategically Plan Your Route**: Upon entry, head directly to the Dragon Stairway, a popular photo location. Early access means you can capture pictures without the usual crowds. Additionally, be sure to explore the Mosaic Terrace and the unique colonnaded pathway. By following these tips, you can enjoy the whimsical architecture and colorful mosaics of Park Güell while minimizing the stress of the crowds.

Why I will never go back ⬇️
Portland was not good. I just plain did not like it. It felt unsafe, there was nothing but the lighthouse and I had a bad airbnb experience. Stowe and Boston however, were amazing. I loved them they were beautiful, but I did all I need to do there. I don’t feel like I would be bored if I went back.
