📚 Book club: under your scars
🌟 Why I liked it: Our book club this past month read under your scars, and I just want to say I loved absolutely everything about this book! From the character development, from the 🌶️🌶️🥵, to the psychotic-ness of it 😂, to absolutely everything!
😡 what I didn’t like: The ending pissed me off so much, because (SPOILER) how you going to adopted Caroline give her the perfect home she always wanted and then do what you did in the end!!!!! BUT! Then I got my closure because of Caroline 52 page book which was much needed. Because well I don’t want to give too much away but you get it. Lol
⭐ Overall rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️, it was def my favorite read so far this year, and I can’t want to read more by this author.
As a dedicated dark romance reader, I’m always on the lookout for books that push boundaries and leave a lasting impression. 'Under Your Scars' by Ariel N. Anderson absolutely delivered on that front, and I'm so glad my book club picked it. It promised an experience that was "DARK, INTENSE. UNFORGETTABLE." and it truly lived up to that hype. From the very first page, I was hooked by the promise of "Two stories. One obsession." which created an immediate sense of intrigue. What made the character development so compelling for me was how raw and authentic the journeys felt, even amidst the "psychotic-ness" the story embraced. You really get to see the layers peel back, revealing their vulnerabilities and internal battles. It wasn't just about surface-level changes; it was a deep dive into what makes these characters tick, making their choices, however extreme, understandable within the context of their world. This depth is what elevates a dark romance from merely shocking to genuinely impactful, and 'Under Your Scars' nailed it. And let’s talk about the spice! The "🌶️🌶️🥵" moments were definitely there, adding another layer of intensity to the relationships without overshadowing the plot or the emotional connections. It was woven in a way that felt integral to the characters' development and their entangled destinies, rather than just being gratuitous. For me, the true power of a dark romance lies in its ability to explore the darker facets of love and obsession, and this book did so masterfully, making it an "unforgettable" read in that regard. Now, about that ending – I completely understand the frustration! It really left me reeling, questioning everything I thought I knew about the characters' motivations. It's rare for an ending to provoke such a strong reaction, but for me, the unexpected turn highlighted the author's courage in not taking the easy path. The closure provided by the "Caroline 52 page book" was absolutely crucial. It's a testament to the author's understanding of reader needs, providing that much-needed additional perspective that helps process the initial shock. It transformed an initially infuriating ending into one that, upon reflection, felt more complete and, in its own way, satisfying. It’s exactly why this novel earned its "5 OUT OF 5 STARS" and why my love for it, despite its imperfections, is truly yours.
