The kids of today are 40 😂
When dining out with children, a kids menu often serves as a helpful guide for selecting meals suited to younger tastes and smaller appetites. Typically, a kids menu includes simpler, milder flavored dishes compared to the adult menu, such as chicken fingers, macaroni and cheese, or small burgers. Portions are generally reduced to reduce waste and price, while often including a side and a drink. However, the notion of a kids menu is evolving. Some kids and even young adults today might be unfamiliar with it, often because they prefer to order off the regular menu or because some restaurants have moved away from traditional kids menus to more flexible options. This can spark nostalgia in adults who remember growing up with clearly defined kids meals. From personal experience, I’ve noticed that the kids menu not only simplifies menu choices for children but also helps parents control sugar, sodium, and other nutritional factors by offering standardized dishes. On the flip side, some children might feel limited or less grown-up ordering from a kids menu, leading them to seek options from the main menu as they get older. In recent years, some restaurants have also started designing kids menus with a focus on healthier ingredients and more diverse options to appeal to today's families' changing preferences. This evolution demonstrates how the kids menu adapts to modern dining culture while still maintaining its purpose as a helpful tool for families eating out together.
