Have you ever looked at your paycheck and realized…
“This isn’t enough to cover ALL of these bills.” 😩💸
When that happens, DON’T panic and DON’T just start sending random payments everywhere.
You need a PAYCHECK SURVIVAL PLAN. 💕
Here’s what to prioritize 👇🏽
🏠 1. PROTECT YOUR HOUSING
Rent or mortgage comes first. Keeping a safe roof over your head is the priority.
💡 2. KEEP YOUR ESSENTIALS ON
Electricity, water, gas and necessary phone/internet services come next.
🚗 3. PROTECT YOUR ABILITY TO WORK
Think gas, transportation, car insurance, necessary childcare and anything you absolutely need to continue earning income.
🛒 4. FOOD & BASIC NEEDS
Groceries, medications, household necessities and your family’s basic needs have to be covered.
💳 5. HANDLE REQUIRED PAYMENTS
After your immediate necessities are protected, look at minimum payments and other obligations. If you can’t make a payment, DON’T ignore it—call the company and ask about extensions, hardship programs or payment arrangements.
💕 6. EVERYTHING ELSE
Savings, sinking funds, entertainment, eating out, shopping and extras may need to temporarily decrease while you’re getting through a tight paycheck.
💰 REALISTIC PAYCHECK EXAMPLE
Let’s say your take-home paycheck is $1,200, but you have $1,650 worth of bills and expenses coming up.
Instead of trying to stretch $1,200 into $1,650, give the money you DO have a priority:
🏠 Housing: $500
💡 Utilities: $175
🛒 Groceries: $175
⛽ Gas/Transportation: $100
🚗 Insurance/Work expense: $100
💳 Minimum required payments: $100
🧾 Small cushion: $50
TOTAL = $1,200
That means the remaining $450 doesn’t magically disappear.
Now you make a PLAN for it.
📞 Call the companies you can’t fully pay.
📅 Ask about changing due dates or payment arrangements.
💰 Use your next paycheck to tackle the next priorities.
✂️ Temporarily reduce nonessential spending.
📝 Write down exactly what still needs to be paid.
And here’s something important:
Don’t send $20 to five different bills just because you feel like you have to pay everybody something.
Look at the consequences first.
Which bill could cause you to lose housing?
Which could get disconnected?
Which affects your ability to work?
Which can safely wait until your next paycheck?
✨ When your paycheck can’t cover everything, your goal isn’t to make every bill happy.
Your goal is to protect your HOME, ESSENTIALS, FOOD and ABILITY TO EARN INCOME while you make a plan for everything else.
Same paycheck.
Smarter plan. 💕💰
