Grief broke my heart & fogged my mind 🩷🌫️

Grief doesn’t always look like tears. Since my dad died on June 19, 2026, I’ve learned that sometimes grief looks like forgetting why I walked into a room, struggling to focus, feeling completely exhausted, and using every ounce of strength just to finish the smallest task.

Some days, my mind feels wrapped in fog. I’m struggling more than I know how to explain, and my heart is still learning how to live in a world without my dad. I miss him so deeply.

I’m reminding myself that I’m not losing my mind—I’m grieving someone I love. Grief has no schedule, so right now, I’m taking life one day… sometimes one moment… at a time.

Even when I can’t see through the fog, I’m choosing to believe God is still beside me.

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted.” — Psalm 34:18 🩷🌫️

... Read moreExperiencing grief can deeply affect not only our emotions but also our mental clarity. The phenomenon often called 'grief fog' can make everyday tasks feel overwhelmingly difficult. From personal experience, the feeling of forgetting why you entered a room or struggling to concentrate is very real and common during intense grief periods. It's essential to recognize that this cognitive haze is part of the healing process—not a sign that something is wrong with your mind. The exhaustion mentioned is both emotional and physical, as grief taps into our entire being. Many find it helpful to allow themselves grace and patience, understanding that recovery happens at its own pace. One effective way to manage grief fog is to create gentle routines and break tasks into smaller steps, minimizing overwhelm. Using reminders such as notes or alarms can help maintain focus. Speaking openly about your experience with trusted friends, family, or support groups can also provide relief and validation. Faith and spirituality, as highlighted by the comforting Psalm 34:18, often offer strength and hope when navigating grief’s uncertainties. Believing that you are not alone and that higher support surrounds you can be a powerful source of resilience. Lastly, consider that grief is not linear—there will be moments of clarity and moments where the fog returns. Embracing this ebb and flow, without judgment, aids in gradually finding peace. Sharing stories like these helps break the isolation many feel and reminds us that healing is a journey taken one day, or even one moment, at a time.

Amen and thank you for posting this. Sometimes people think grief is only tears and depression, but you’re exactly right. Grief can materialize as fog, over planning, and even uncontrollable laughter. Each person processes grief in their own way and in their own time. No one has the right to tell another person how to grieve or when it should end. My best friend lost her husband 2 years ago and she is still grieving. I know she didn’t grieve like I would, but I’ve let her grieve in her own way.

No one warned me that grief hurt this much
Everyday I live with the sadness and regret of not taking more pictures with my great grandma . I had my reasons, but I never thought I would ever have to live without her. It became a joke in the family that she’d outlive each of us and at the time it felt real until it wasn’t and it was too late.

Grieving the loss of someone who’s still alive
Losing someone important to you due to their own choices can be one of the most difficult experiences any human could endure. The sheer part of letting go is the hardest. Why would you let go of someone that’s still there? Doesn’t that show YOU’VE given up? Or maybe you agree to the choice as well?
