My Go-To Asian Food Spots in DC

I’ll be honest, the Asian food scene in DC is pretty small compared to cities like NYC or LA, but there are a few spots I keep going back to when I’m really craving Asian food. These are my tried-and-true favorites that never disappoint.

🍱SHŌTŌ Washington DC

I love coming here when I want Asian food that feels elevated. Their sushi and robata dishes are always consistent, and it’s one of my favorite spots for a cute date night.

🍱Kappo DC

A modern Japanese restaurant focused on small plates and omakase-style dining. Great if you love trying seasonal dishes and sitting at the counter for the full experience.

🍱KYOJIN Sushi

Great for groups because they have everything from rice bowls to sushi and small plates. Highly recommend ordering the monster trio and the Japanese sandwich.

🍱Anju

Modern Korean food that’s perfect for sharing. I love this place for Korean fried chicken, fun cocktails, and group dinners. You must try the ssam board and yukhoe.

🍱O-Ku

My favorite spot to get sushi in the city. A sleek sushi restaurant with high-quality fish and a trendy rooftop vibe. They also play the best music ever and offer a great happy hour deal!

🍱doi moi

Vietnamese-inspired dishes with bold flavors. Known for small plates, pho-inspired dishes, and a lively atmosphere. They also offer bottomless brunch which is a great experience to taste a variety of menu items!

🍱Perry's Restaurant

A DC classic offering Japanese-American cuisine. Famous for sushi and their rooftop in warmer months. You need to try the garlic fried rice and udon carbonara. They also host drag brunch on sundays with a fun Japanese breakfast set.

🍱RollPlay: Viet Food That Loves You!

Asian street food vibes with bao buns, noodles, and quick bites. Perfect for a casual lunch or pre-event meal. My favorite are the summer rolls which you can customize the protein.

🍱Rice Market

A Thai market and café where you can eat and shop. Great for Thai comfort food plus grabbing pantry items and cute kitchen finds.

... Read moreWashington DC’s Asian food scene, while more modest compared to food capitals like NYC or Los Angeles, offers a vibrant variety of authentic and innovative dishes that cater to diverse tastes. For sushi lovers, places like SHŌTŌ Washington DC and O-Ku stand out with their consistent high-quality fish selections and trendy atmospheres. SHŌTŌ’s robata grill and sushi provide an elevated dining experience ideal for date nights, while O-Ku impresses with its rooftop setting and lively music, especially during happy hour. KYOJIN Sushi is perfect for groups and offers popular dishes such as the monster trio and Japanese sandwiches, delivering both variety and flavor. If you crave Japanese omakase or small-plate dining with seasonal twists, Kappo DC is renowned for its intimate counter seating and chef-driven menus, perfect for food adventurers eager to try fresh, innovative cuisine. Korean cuisine enthusiasts will find Anju exceptional, especially for sharing dishes like Korean fried chicken, ssam boards, and yukhoe. The modern take on Korean flavors alongside fun cocktails makes it an ideal spot for group dinners. Vietnamese-inspired eateries in DC, including doi moi and RollPlay, are celebrated for their bold, vibrant flavors and small plates that capture the essence of pho and street food culture. Doi Moi’s bottomless brunch is a unique experience that allows tasting a variety of dishes in a lively atmosphere, while RollPlay’s bao buns and customizable summer rolls offer quick, delicious options for casual meals. For Thai food aficionados, Rice Market combines a café experience with a market, allowing guests not only to enjoy comforting Thai dishes but also to shop for pantry essentials and unique kitchen gadgets. Perry’s Restaurant blends Japanese-American cuisine with welcoming rooftop vibes in warmer months and hosts engaging events such as drag brunches, adding to the lively DC food scene. Whether you’re a local or visiting, these Asian dining spots in Washington DC provide more than just meals—they offer authentic cultural experiences and environments that satisfy cravings for classic and modern Asian flavors.
