Cost Breakdown of 1 Week in Japan

I am all for transparency when it comes to travel, especially since it’s an experience that we have to pay for. I like to sharing with people how you can travel to places and not spend thousands and thousands of dollars. So I wanted to share an approximate breakdown of how much my trip to Japan cost when I visited last year. Here is the breakdown of what I spent:

Background Info:

- Traveled during the first week of March 2024 (3-10)

- Went with my boyfriend so there were 2 of us

Costs for 2 people for 1 week ~

Flights:

$1,015 on the budget airline ZipAir from HNL to Tokyo Narita

Hotels:

$574 for both Tokyo and Kyoto hotels

Train/Subway Transportation:

$420 (including Shinkansen/bullet train tickets)

Attractions/Activities:

$50 (most activities we did were free)

Food:

$500 (mix of budget, mid-range, and 1 fancy meal)

Souvenirs:

$250 (will vary in how much you can bring back)

Overall cost: ~ $2,809 combined or $1,404.50 per person

The pricing will definitely be different based on what you prioritize! We could have for sure saved more or spent more on lots of things!

Overall, this trip was perfect for us and our first visit to Japan and I wanted to share to give people a realistic idea of what a trip like this costs. And remember, all of the prices are subject to change based on the type of trip you want!
