... Read moreIt's so exciting to finally dive into the world of Hobonichi planners! If you're new to this, you might be wondering, 'what exactly is a Hobonichi planner?' Well, it's a cult-favorite Japanese planner system renowned for its ultra-thin, fountain-pen-friendly Tomoe River paper and incredibly thoughtful layouts. Many of us fall in love with them because they offer so much flexibility for both planning and journaling, truly adapting to your unique life.
I recently decided to embrace the Hobonichi lifestyle for 2026, and I've chosen two planners to help me stay on top of my busy schedule: the compact Hobonichi Weeks and the more spacious Hobonichi Cousin. I've been seeing so many amazing setups online, and I can't wait to share my own journey and hopefully inspire some of you!
For my Hobonichi Weeks, I'm envisioning it as my primary work planner and weekly overview. I plan to use the weekly spreads to block out major deadlines, meetings, and important appointments. Those handy blank grid pages at the back? Perfect for jotting down weekly goals, quick project management notes, or even a running list of tasks for the kids' schedule. I'm also excited to use it for meal planning – sketching out our dinners for the week ahead makes grocery shopping so much easier. I’ve seen people personalize their Weeks with cute stickers and clear covers, just like the one I saw online with a 'focus on the good 2026' sticker – it really adds character!
Then there's my Hobonichi Cousin, which is going to be my powerhouse for daily journaling and in-depth functional planning. This one is amazing because it has a full page for each day, plus monthly and weekly overviews. For daily journaling, some days I might just do a brain dump of thoughts and feelings, while other days I use prompts for gratitude or reflection. It’s a wonderful way to capture memories and track personal growth. For business plans, I'm dedicating specific sections to quarterly goals, marketing strategies, and client notes – the grid paper is fantastic for drawing out mind maps or flowcharts. I'm also integrating a health journal to track my water intake, exercise routines, and mood fluctuations, which helps me stay accountable to my wellness journey. And, of course, the bi-weekly budget tracking will live here, using the monthly calendar for an overview and the daily pages for detailed spending. Plus, it's perfect for keeping up with school assignments, tracking books I'm reading, and even collecting new meal inspo and recipes.
The beauty of having both a Weeks and a Cousin for 2026 is how they complement each other. The Weeks gives me that portable, high-level overview for work and weekly tasks, while the Cousin provides the expansive space for daily details, deep dives into personal projects, and creative journaling. It's like having a master command center and a daily diary all rolled into one system. I'm really keen to use clear covers on both, adorned with fun stickers, maybe even some anime-style characters, to make them truly my own. Seeing the little calendar peeking through on the cover is a nice touch too!
I'm incredibly excited about this new planning setup for 2026, and I'm always looking for fresh ideas. What are your favorite Hobonichi Weeks inspo ideas? How do you tackle functional planning in your Hobonichi Cousin? Share your tips and tricks – I'd love to see your layouts and learn from your experience!
