My niece just turned 16 and we had a cute outing for her birthday
AMBIANCE
This restaurant was cute but it was really loud and crowded. I understand it being this way for a saturday but it was hard to enjoy the atmosphere when it was so chaotic.
FOOD
The food in my personal opinion wasnt that great, especially for the price. It would’ve been reasonable if the food was better. They didn’t have a wide range of choices to choose from either and when you receive your food it’s actually not really quite like you’d expect it to be. It was my first time there so maybe if I order something else id enjoy it better. So far the drinks was the most enjoyable.
LOCATION
this restaurant is located in west village in uptown Dallas. The area wasn’t bad it was really busy and a lot of people around.
RATING
I give this restaurant a 7/10 maybe if I visit it again during a less busier time I can have a different experience but first impressions are everything.
... Read moreMy recent birthday outing to Lyla in Dallas, specifically located in the bustling West Village part of Uptown, left me with some definite thoughts I wanted to share beyond just the initial review. When you first walk in, the atmosphere is indeed striking. There's a captivating setup with an illuminated 'LYLA' sign nestled within a circular wooden wall and beautiful purple floral decor. It sets a very trendy and vibrant tone, perfect for photos, especially if you're dressed for the occasion.
However, as my original post mentioned, the ambiance quickly shifted from vibrant to chaotic. It was a Saturday night, and the place was incredibly loud and crowded. While I appreciate a lively spot, it honestly made conversation difficult and detracted from the overall dining experience. If you're planning a visit, especially for a special occasion or if you prefer a more intimate setting, I'd strongly recommend trying a weeknight or an earlier time slot. I truly believe my 7/10 rating might improve significantly if I experienced it during a less busy period.
Let's talk about the food, which was a major point for me. My personal experience with the dishes was a bit underwhelming, especially considering the price point. The menu didn't offer a huge variety, which can be fine if the few options are exceptionally executed. I opted for the grilled salmon, which was beautifully presented on a white plate, topped with dill, and served alongside quinoa and broccoli with a creamy sauce. Visually, it was appealing, but the taste didn't quite match the expectation set by the presentation or the cost. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't memorable enough to justify the expense. On the flip side, the drinks were a definite highlight! They were well-crafted and enjoyable, which made up for some of the food disappointment. Perhaps Lyla shines brighter as a spot for cocktails and appetizers rather than a full dinner.
Now, for a common question I see about places like Lyla: what should you wear? The vibe is definitely upscale casual to trendy chic. You'll see a mix of outfits, but most people are dressed to impress. For my visit, I wore a vibrant yellow, orange, and red ombre dress, which felt perfectly in line with the energetic decor and general scene. Many women were in stylish dresses or chic pantsuits, while men often opted for smart casual attire. It’s the kind of place where you want to put a little effort into your look. The modern bathroom, with its dark blue tiled walls and illuminated oval mirror, is even perfect for a quick mirror selfie to capture your outfit before heading back to your table. If you're heading out for a night in Uptown Dallas, Lyla certainly encourages you to dress the part, fitting right into the fashionable West Village scene. Considering the lively atmosphere, I'd suggest something comfortable but stylish that allows you to move easily through the crowd.
Sis can we get the dress details? 😍😍😍
