Stop wasting hours on notes that don't actually help you remember

4/17 Edited to

... Read moreFrom my experience, traditional note-taking often feels like a time-consuming task that doesn’t always translate into better memory or understanding. What changed my approach was integrating active recall techniques, like testing myself instead of passively rereading notes. For example, after a study session, I try to write down or verbally summarize what I remember without looking at my materials — this blurting method quickly highlights the gaps in my knowledge. Another game-changer was mixing subjects during my study schedule. Instead of focusing on one topic for hours, I switch between subjects such as math and biology. This interleaving strategy forces me to engage different parts of my brain, making the learning deeper and longer-lasting rather than relying on pattern recognition that doesn’t stick well. One useful tool I discovered is TikoNote, an app designed to combine quizzes, flashcards, mind maps, and explanations all in one place. It streamlines my study sessions, allowing me to upload content once and interact with it in multiple ways, which saves time and enhances understanding. Incorporating these strategies helped me reduce the hours spent on ineffective notes and increased both my confidence and exam scores. If you want smarter study habits, focus on active testing, switching topics regularly, and applying technology tools that support memory-building techniques.
